It fascinates me that Xbox Series Xs are still out of stock.

Has anyone been able to snag one at normal price? If so how? I know I could overpay for one on eBay but would much prefer to not have to do that.

How in 2021 4+ months post release this commodity from a multi-billion dollar company is still out of stock is insane to me.

Is it not those people buying them up quickly who are forcing them to be out of stock? Some these folks are probably buying multiple of them, perhaps hundreds so they can scalp them for $800... I would venture to guess 90% of the ones being sold aren't going to their actual user.

If the demand had nothing to do with the rarity of the product itself then I figure there would be much less of a stock issue. It's a chicken-egg paradox.

Question is, how can Microsoft prevent this? Not smart enough to figure it out but there's got to be a way to only ship a certain amount to each address?

Covid likely impacted production runs and evidently there is a materials shortage that is also impacting production. The demand has also provided an opportunity for scalpers to stake out online merchants to scoop up units and flip for a profit.

Add in the fact that interest is higher because people are spending more time at home and have more time for gaming and it begins to make sense why it’s difficult.

If you follow some guys on Twitter that track availability and you are patient, you will eventually have success. I’ve managed to get both consoles but ps5 took me a minute.

I'd like to ask that same question to Nvidia.

I had to overpay for a rtx 3080 because there's no end in sight for the stock of that being out.

Obviously scalpers are playing a part in this, but the main issue is the supply chain. Look at all the car manufacturers that are putting out record low cars this year. There is a huge chip shortage that happened because of the pandemic. And for the chips that have been made many are on ships sitting at ports because there is a labor shortage and backup of ships that need to be unloaded.

Its actually an interesting case study about the effects of shutting down the workforce.

I got lucky and followed one of those tracking sites. Took me 2 hours of refreshing GameStop to apply for the series x and all access pass.

In a tell-all interview with CNET, the incoming Qualcomm CEO, Cristiano Amon, shared the problem that many tech companies are facing.

He said that the issue lies with global chip manufacturing. It just cannot keep up with the demand worldwide. Before the pandemic happened, orders for chips were high. However, at its onset, tech companies started cutting down their purchases because of the low sales forecast.

As the world started shifting online midway through the pandemic, the same tech companies realized that there is actually a whole new market evolving before their eyes. As such, they started ramping up their orders again. Unfortunately, the fabrication of chipsets couldn’t keep up.

Is there a silver lining to the issue? Amon’s answer to that is a strong ‘no.’ He said that the problem might persist until the end of the year. In other words, the same problem that haunted the majority of tech companies last year will most likely be the same issue that they will face this year.

Finding a solution to the problem is not an overnight process. It will take billions of dollars for a new factory to be built to keep up with the demand. However, the problem doesn’t lie with the funds. If there is money to be earned in the business, investors are expected to pour in their funds.

Unfortunately, the problem is more because of the time constraint rather than the availability of funds. Setting up a factory alone will take more than a year to finish. By then, the availability of chipsets may already be overflowing.

This is what I want, but I'm patient. I don't need a Series X right now today.

Don't know why this is getting downvoted. This is 2021. For those of you saying you don't want to sit in front of your computer all day? Cool. Good thing you carry one in your pocket. Set up notifications, make sure you have updated credit card info saved on your online retailers of choice, and just wait. When you get the notification, go attempt to purchase. It may take a few tries, but you're only down a few minutes each time. Anyone telling you that you have to physically stare at a computer screen all day refreshing the page is either ignorant or lying to you.

It's not Sony and Microsoft. It's the retailers themselves. They are trying to avoid people camping outside their doors every night. Have you seen how crazy its gotten with Pokémon? Just imagine if people were doing the same for these also?

Walmart has had Xbox series x going in and out of stock all day. Like I said earlier..join one of the twitter groups and you will get one.. no problem. In fact join this one on twitter: Invetory Bot
and you will have one before the end of the week.
Make sure you turn on notifications

I've gotten two, one for me, one for a buddy. Still trying to get one or two more for friends. By far the easiest and the only one that stays in stock for more than a microsecond is Best Buy. Make an account, have your CC info saved, and save the XSX for later. Download Hotstock app, pull up Best Buy, cart, profit.

- Hotstock App
- Best Buy w/ account made (CC info saved)
- Profit

I stopped wasting my time on Wal-Mart drops, never even got close to getting one.

See that's the exact opposite from me... I can never get them from best buy. Always amazon and walmart. Good thing I'm done getting them for friends and family

I think they like them online, they sell out regardless and don’t have to deal with people harassing their employees every day for something out of there control.

I guess I got lucky. My son got an email right after Christmas about Series X from Gamestop. He told me about it. I went on site, and had some trouble with my password, and had to get it reset, and then I placed an order. I was worried the order didn't go through because it took several days to get a confirmation email. It was supposed to come in late January or early Feb, but it came in 2 weeks early. I will grant you it was a bundle with 2 games, and 3 month game pass, but the games were something he liked so it was worth it.

I was able to grab one from Target. Traded it to coworker who had an extra PS5 Disc edition.

Maybe if we werent putting chips in fridges and dishwashers we wouldnt be dealing with such a shortage.
