I wonder if you will be able to buy digital activation codes from other sites like you can for Steam. A dev controls who can retail their product so in theory you could but the question is will the Xbox One allow you to redeem that code?
What I am getting at is that a large part of my Steam library has come from sites like GreenManGaming, Humble Bundle sales, etc. They all whore games out for cheap. Would be awesome if that happens on console too.

Yeah, I think if a developer sells 1 million games at $60 they get $60,000,000
They really only get about half that. Retail takes a large chunk of it, publishers do, licensors do (Sony, MS, and Nintendo), and the cost of actually making and shipping the unit.

No. Not even a remote possibility. Microsoft has always been a heavily monopolized company. No way in hell they would ever allow that. Which in my opinion is a negative. Microsoft doesn't want the competition because they know lack of competition drives pricing up.

Ok, well just manipulate the numbers however you want. The key was the increase in sales of 30% which is an arbitrary number I pulled out of my starfish.

They make money off of license fees though so more game sales means more money for them no matter how the sales come about.

Which is the premise behind XBLA games. I just don't see them jumping into the market with the fervor you elude to. It puts too many channels of distribution into the mix and they will hate that.

But I could see them at some point giving up their ability to develop their own games, giving up the kickbacks from the big developers (possibly) and allowing a mass market where they revenue share with those same developers.

I don't think they can stop it though if it's what devs want. I may be wishful thinking but I don't see Xbox telling large publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc to go frick themselves. They could lose relationships with those publishers which in turn means better exclusive games and DLC for PS4 which hurts Xbox.

I'm not saying they would shun the big developers but maybe not accept big sums of money for placement. There would have to be a mass increase of small developers to make it feasible. But this market is changing so I'm not ruling anything out. To make your point, Microsoft loves making money by not doing anything. So licensing will become a bigger part of what they do in the future. I just don't quite know how.

I used to think that Sony kept MS honest but after these recent developments, I'm not sure that is the case anymore.

If Xbox games were as cheap as pc no one would care. Besides steam has those awesome summer deals. Xbox/PS does not.
Horrible comparison

The great thing about all this mess is that I'm not getting either one anytime soon.

The only thing that is putting me off of a pc is my ability to sit in my recliner and play

Dude, I just realized tigerdroppings requires us to connect to the internet
Why can't I get new content offline?! Please only send me your posts via carrier pigeon now, as I am going offline from the Hive until Xbox one changes their policy.
I can't what you're trying to say, but that's a bit different. You are paying however much for a new xbox, $40-60 for a new game, but you can only play that game that you bought in a store unless you are connected to the internet? Bit different. Not to mention tigerdroppings is free, so there's that.

Seems like Microsoft is just trying to make a profit with this system. Sony will be Sony and lose and go bankrupt. Microsoft monopoly in the next next gen.

Lots of PC games don't allow controllers.
And the ones that do, like FPS games... Well you would get destroyed by mouse pointers.

Most do now. It's rare I find a game that doesn't support it. Besides, there's this thing called a wireless keyboard and mouse that might do the trick.

This is nothing new for broke. And I can hold my own with a controller.
