How did Battlefield 2042 fail so badly?

You can buy the ps5 version on ebay for 10 bucks right now. I played a few hours and never went back.

It was the free game last month.
I played it a bit over the weekend. It’s not bad at that point. but I did play the beta and decided not to get it.

They got away from everything that made Battlefield great.
Also adding specialists was fricking trash.

they killed the entire fanbase in 24 hours. everyone expects bugs at launch. there aren’t enough patches on earth to fix that mess they put out. I’ve never been more disappointed in a release in my entire life.
mildly dramatic, but at 31, this debacle has severely impacted how much I want to “game” going forward. BF1 met and exceeded my insanely high expectations, I skipped BF5 because the CEO specifically told me to, so we all waited eagerly for 2042. I tried for 2 days with some buddies about a month after launch. just couldn’t do it.

Yeah their last 2 patches really overhauled the game I've been playing some again here and there since it's free with my EA Play sub. Getting rid of specialists brought a lot back, that and finally adding back small conquest and more playlists in general.
There is a decent community now, it's kind of like how BFV went with a rough launch and a year+ later before it got solid. 2042 still isn't as good though.
I will still die on the hill that they should have turned the Battlefield Portal idea into a Halo Master Chief Collection type with all or most of the previous Battlefields and their maps, guns etc with remastered maps for each game as DLC over time. You can't possibly frick up the launch worse than 343 did for MCC.
Feels like it would be a big hit and just what BF needs right now, a remaster collection including 1942, the bad companies plus 3 and 4. Portal already has a few 1942, BC2 and BF3 maps/guns.

Franchises like Battlefield and Call of Duty should not be set in the future. World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, War on Terror, or Present Day will suffice. I do like a modicum of realism when I'm playing shooters. If I want science fiction, I'll play Halo.

It’s not over the top futuristic. You basically still have the same current day weapons platforms.
Still have tanks and normal planes and shite, and you use a parachute.

Absolute trash when they do this. Cold war, WW2, and Vanguard were absolute garbage games with garbage guns. I like modern times bc they can do old guns with new guns. Old games they like to "keep the era" and use only old weapons. I just don't know why they HAVE to stay with a narrative. Make a modern shooter and have modes where you can be in any timeline. Say the main game is modern but you can do a raid in the 1930s or 1970s. Have all the guns available for the entire game. Call it Call of Duty Through the Ages or something and just keep developing that game. Don't know why Call of Duty acts like it's a serious shooter. It's an arcade shooter ffs.

I bought it a launch and hated it like most. Everything about it was terrible. When they brought Rush back I started playing a few rounds here and there. When they brought classes back and re-worked some of the maps I started playing it more. The way it stands right now I'm playing it everyday and with the exception of a couple maps I have to say I'm really enjoying it.

If you really are Battlefield fan give it a shot now. You may still think it sucks or you maybe pleasantly surprised.

It plays really well, feels good. I would play it more but I'm not a fan of how they do the playlists now.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam was the goat.
If they remastered that (or just brought it back), I'd have to quit my job.

Because it's trash compared to past Battlefield titles. They made some weird design decisions to remove classes and add "specialist", which are wacky characters with cheesy voice lines, like some sort of COD battle royal bullshite. That's not what Battlefield players want. They had to come out with major updates to try and fix their mistake, but it's far too late.

Agreed, glad to see a good chunk of players returning like BFV.
Never too late.

Know why they don’t have the server browser? Because it would show you how dead the game is
