I started out in SFG as a half elf range, it took me an hour to figure out I needed to adjust the gama to get out of the tunnel. Fishing for coin and rusty sandals. The Rathe
I was in the chat channels when the sleeper was defeated (not by BotS.)

Qeynos, Bard (of course), The Rathe.
Every few years I log back in. The guild is long-disbanded and the newbie zones are pretty vacant. I miss the grand old days of being in fear of the Blackburrow trains, but the exp being so good that the chance was worth it. PoFear raids taking hours, the hole in the world under the world just inside the waterline in West Karana that dropped you at the QHills zone, the hermit's hut in SK, camping for a FBSS, fear kiting hill giants for big plat, etc.

I was gifted gear that made me feal like a god, die in the bottom of BB, lol. The ones that gave me the gear luckily helped me recover it. I exacted my revenge on that place many times.
The Rathe was one of the last ROT servers when the rest went FFA. ROT schedules, beat them to the punch if you want in..

Night Elf warrior here, Arch Overseers on Bristlebane.

Puking in UO was the best but EQ will always hold the best MMO of all time in my rankings. I can’t even remember what my main was anymore as I played whatever my guild needed for whichever raid we were doing

I was on this server. I mainly played from like 03 - 05. I logged in not too long ago, and I still recognized some of the old guild names.
A part of me wishes I could re-live peak EQ days, but then I remember what an absolute time sink it was

High elf cleric back in 1999. Recently started playing again on Quarm. Its an EQEMU server so free to play. Nice quality of life improvements, and instanced raiding. Probably one of the most popular servers around right now. Great for scratching the EQ itch.

I played mid to late 90s. Peak EQ was not for the faint of heart. It was relatively brutal. Naked corpse runs alone would immediately kill any new MMO from mainstream success and that was a hallmark of EQ. Solo play was legitimately difficult for most classes. The game REALLY enforced the "multiplayer" part of MMO that a lot of people nowadays don't want.

I played a gnome warrior on Brell. It was the absolute best time of my gaming life. I still login 10-12 times a year and just got sit in Kelethin at the Emerald warriors hut just to hear the sounds and music.

You had to be careful. Don't go too far off the beaten path without a cleric. If you died somewhere difficult to reach, you could get a Necromancer to summon your corpse.
Most classes couldn't really solo, but then again, the classes weren't designed with solo play in mind.
I wouldn't say that people these days don't want enforced multiplayer, but in EQ, that was pretty much the ONLY way you could play. You'd have days where you'd spend hours accomplishing essentially nothing because you couldn't find a group.
The best MMORPGs these days offer a mixture of both meaningful single player and multiplayer content.
What I do miss is the concept of "Camps" and the slow pace of combat. Every class in a tab target MMORPG feels like playing a Bard in EverQuest where you are constantly pressing buttons. There's no downtime to chat with your party members. My fondest memories are chilling at a camp and just having conversations with my group mates while we kill mobs or break to regenerate mana.

100% agree. I can't tell you the last time, if ever, in wow I called a camp spot and just grinded mobs for 6 hours. I did that a TON in EQ.

Game didn't release until March 99, I think the last phase of closed Beta was January or February. Maybe you're thinking of Meridian 59?

I remember being nervous as shite making my way from Qeynos to Freeport to rebind where more of my guild was hanging out. No one was high enough to rez nor even teleport to wizzie or druid spots. At least Kithicor hadn't gone bloody yet.

You knew you had made it when your guild got on the RTA (Rathe Travel Agency) calendar.

Naked Corpse Runs in the Desert with Sand Giants
