I was reading through some Starfield bug fixes and it looked like a lot of them required console commands, which disables achievements. I was wildly surprised to see most of the responses view this as unacceptable, and would rather live with a game breaking bug than not be able to collect achievements and trophies.

Do people still worry about these? Am I the outlier?

They're fun, but at the end of the day I don't care about them.

Depends on the game. Some games have interesting achievements that require you to do interesting, difficult things, and I like to have a personal record of having done it. Some games are just fricking pointless and I couldn't care less.

But even for the former, I only consider broken achievements to be an annoyance, not a deal breaker. I would much rather play with mods than have achievements, if it was mutually exclusive.

If I’m finishing up a main campaign/story and realize that I’m reasonably close to getting Platinum then I’ll go for it.

That said, that dumbass Harry Potter game was probably the one that’ll stick in my a-hole as one I didn’t get. The game was boring but I got far enough into it that the only reason I finished was to position myself to getting Platinum (if I wanted to spend a few hours starting playthroughs with each house). Had a huge bug occur when I opened the chest with the final item needed. The chest stayed opened but did not register the item acquisition.

Agee with you here. I think I used to enjoy them when they were for off the wall things. At some point they just started giving you trophies and achievements just for going through a game’s story and that’s when it lost me.

My gamerscore is a source of embarrassment moreso than pride.

i like them and think they are neat and fun, but i dont particularly care about them.

this is especially true when the achievement are so out of the frame and context of normal play and are ridiculous to achieve.

on the flip side of this, if an achievement list is well crafted and you get 90 percent of it from normal play, i'll usually go the extra mile to get the rest and 100%/ sony exclusives are very good about that.

I like watching the number go up, but I'm not proactively trying to get specific achievements, and getting a platinum trophy sounds like a miserable experience to me.

It's rare that I go out of my way to get an achievement. Developers tend to load the baseline experience down with them and my xbox profile is overly inflated as it is.

About the only amusing thing with achievements/trophies to me at this point is when a developer gets creative and I stumble across a weird one by accident.

The irritating thing about a lot of platinum trophies is they require multiple playthroughs to accomplish. Unless you are td01269 and play for 72 hours straight in a catatonic or stroke-like state, folks don’t have the time to play these games several times when they already take 50+ hours

I only like it when it pops up on xbox as rare. The diamond visual or whatever.

Had a ton of them during my Sea of Stars playthrough. So good.

Yes I always try to get all of the single player trophies. It bothers me when games have a ton of bullshite trophies like grinding, playing online, or doing a bunch of stupid mini games or trials. All the gwent trophies in Witcher 3 and all the VR trophies in the Arkham games immediately come to mind.

Pretty much the same here. Getting an achievement for finishing a chapter in a story means almost nothing to me. Getting a hidden achievement after I tied a nun up and left her on the tracks to get hit by a train is enjoyable. A lot of those types are either discovered accidentally or lead me to do something I may not have considered otherwise. That's fun to me.

I do like getting an achievement on my second or third play through a game. Outside of the types you can only get with repeated playthroughs it lets me know I just did something I didn't do the first time I played, meaning I got a slightly different experience.

Sometimes.

There are certain games I want to platinum, but I have to be able to do it in my first play through.
