“Dad” game recommendation

Looking for a PC game that can start/stop easily but keep progressing. I’ve played each season of D4 which seems to scratch the itch, but now looking for a change. Haven’t played anything outside of Diablo or StarCraft, like ever, and don’t really know what else is out there.

Oxygen Not Included is a great game, but with a fairly steep learning curve. Once you get some basic skills (and there are tons of youtubers showing you how to do various, specific functions). It is a survival colony simulator, a cousin of Rimworld and Don't Starve (it is a Klei game).
Subnautica is another great game I like for the topic.
They are different from Diablo or StarCraft.
Another game you can kind of play "forever" (or until you get tired of it) is Skyrim.

It really depends on what type of game you want to play. I'll list a few for you but if these don't hit the type of game you want to play, let me know what you're looking for and I'll find you something.
Games like D4: Path of Exile, it's free and a great alternative to the Diablo franchise.
Sandbox games where you can build bases, etc: 7 Days To Die - fight zombies, loot, build a base - every 7th day at night a blood moon rises and you have to survive hordes of zombies. Definitely a fun game
If you're not too worried about progression games, there are strategy games out there that are absolutely fun: Age of Empies 2, Age of Mythology. Or if you want some progression in a strategy game, any of the Total War series.
Just a few that I've played and really enjoy. All can be played solo or with people.

Satisfactory is a good one of that type where you build a massive factory on an alien planet. It can get kind of complicated, but it just hit 1.0.
Factorio is also the same type of game but just top down view as opposed to 1st person

Skyrim.
Can pause and save at any moment. Markers lead you straight to the action.

Modded Minecraft is always fun. I always find myself going back when I'm tired of everything else

Another one I thought of is Dredge. Nice little horror fishing simulator.

Fallout 76 I have wasted over 8k hours on it.
I play D4 a good bit as well on all platforms.

Total War games are perfect. You get turn based empire building and real time strategy battles on a massive scale.

Not even a question: Dark Souls.
Don’t be scared by the difficulty talk; that’s only in comparison to modern games that hold the player’s hand.
Start with DS1 Remastered; use an Xbox controller.

Having the same problem. Stopped playing BG3 when CFB 25 came out, started it up last night and had no clue what I was doing.

Just got back into this after 5 years. Continuing the same save and the updates over the years broke everything ??. Moved resource points so miners are n the wrong place, change recipes so inputs are all wrong, etc. Took me about three days to figure out what I’d been doing and how it was all supposed to work.
