I understand right off of the bat there are many reasons to doubt this with squares behavior over the past years since 10 launched. However, I don’t think it’s crazy to say remake delivered almost everything most fans wanted while still containing that cheesy humor many recent FF have lacked. The very soon rebel ease of of one of the most popular spin offs of all time in Crisis Core to all systems, coupled with how radically different and inspiring FF16 looks to be. So my question, is FF about to see a return to the top of the gaming world? I’d argue remake part 1 was already a giant step. No more sacrificing vision for rating, an at least realization their core base is in their 30s, and people with the vision to see it through. None of this to speak of the FF9 remake said to be in the work.

I’ll admit 16 is giving me FF4 vibes… Cecil will always be the GOAT to me.

I think it definitely is. On top of what you said, FFXIV has been insanely popular for the past year. It averaged well over 3,000,000 users for a few months and is still over a million a day which seems damn good. I haven't played it but when I saw they added FF8's triple triad I was tempted

I didn't like 12, 13, or 15 and don't like MMOs so never played XI or XIV so I am hopeful for something different in XVI to get me back on board.

Crisis Core and FF7 remake are the best Final Fantasy games I have played in the past 20 years, imo. I am really interested in the CC remake and the continuation of the remake story.

In my view, SquareEnix still has no idea what they want FF to actually be. Every game since 10 has been such a radical departure from the one before from a gameplay standpoint.

15 was an absolute mess.

The 7 remake was a fine game in its own right, but I wouldn't call it a good RPG by any stretch of the imagination.

As much as 16 interests me, it looks like Japanese Witcher 3.

14 is like a beautiful oasis in the desert.

The only thing that gives me hope is that square enix divested much of their western studios and perhaps that means they will invest more resources on their internal projects.

Modern square seems less focused on their own vision and more preoccupied with chasing trends. I’ll always remember the 90s and early 2000s fondly. I hope they can find their footing again.

I just have soooo much hesitancy about 16 because they've delivered nothing but disappointments with new plots for basically 20 years at this point

I hope you're right.

They took an important step when they realized that maybe they DON'T have to build an entirely new graphics engine from the ground up for every release.

They put KH3 and the VII remake on the Unreal engine while they just focused on getting the games out, and it paid off. If they stick with what they are currently doing, we might start seeing consistent releases again. I'm hopeful at least.

FFVII Remake was awesome and I can’t wait to play the next part in Rebirth. As far as FFXVI? An action RPG featuring mature themes, giant kaiju battles and a combat system designed by the guy behind Devil May Cry 5? Sign me the frick up.

If square promoted Yoshi P to CEO then we’d be golden.

I'm looking forward to 16, because it looks really good so far, but I feel like I have an obligation to say this in every FF thread...bring back a turn-based/ATB battle system, please.

You should give 12 a full playthrough if you haven't already. I think it has some of the best voice acting and character development in the entire series.

Playing 12 now. I never gave it a fair chance after X. I did like the combat and most def enjoyed the license system. The story hadn’t captivated me like X did. That was back when the game released and I’m now much more open.

Also the zodiac age and speed boost makes it easier.

Imo, 12 is one of the most underrated in the series. I really really liked it

Played through zodiac age 3 or 4 years ago and enjoyed it. Really liked the battle system and wouldn’t mind if they went back to something like that. It does have a lot of running around a barren landscape to get from point A to point B but I didn’t mind it so much. The story is its weakest aspect, it’s pretty much a rip off of Star Wars and wasn’t very engaging. I also like to give 12 props for having one of the more challenging final bosses in the series. The final bosses in most FF games are a joke, but this one was a good challenge

I was exactly the same. When I got older and it came out on Steam I bought it and really enjoyed it.

12, 13, and FF7R are what I think SE needs to stick with imo.

I love the turned based as much as the next but dude…playing 9 and 8…slow if not for the speed boost.

My perfect system would be 7R mixed with 12’s license board. SE HAS to keep some aspect of the turned based alive with its newer action style and boy 7R is a step in the right direction.

Most people didn't mind FF13's combat. The primary complaints were on the linearity. I thought the paradigm shifts were fun and the pace of the battles allowed you to have turn based combat while remaining fast paced.
