Well, mild spoilers but you play as Odin for awhile and I didn’t know how to get back to playing as Eivor and that was annoying.

Yeah they did a piss poor job telling you how to “wake up” from the dream.

Yeah I don’t understand how someone could like Odyssey and dislike this game.

Combat’s better, graphics are better and like you said just feels like the formula is a bit more refined. And as I previously mentioned, it’s fricking Vikings.

I really liked Odyssey and I'm having fun playing this game. I wish they would have just combined these two games together in the mechanics of it. The looting and currency system was way better in Odyssey. The amount and being able to sell loot was better. Making the hunting an actual aspect of the game is better in Valhalla. The story lines are pretty comparable to me, it is tighter in Valhalla, but I wish it would connect more to the actual assassin's mythos (haven't completed the game yet so I could be wrong here). The variety of the combat is better in Valhalla but I think the fighting mechanics were better in Odyssey honestly.

Both great games, but mashing them together would make arguably the best one.

Just finished up the main story and the Asgard/Jottunheim arcs. Took just over 60 hours in total. Very much enjoyed the game.

Same tonight. Collected everything in every area. Last 2 hours is a cutscene of gobble-dee asian. I guess if you’re a hardcore AC fan, it makes more sense. I got the general gist of it, but the details I just ignored.

It was alright. Had fun; more than I expected. Sorta wanna push a little more to get the platinum because I’m 3 trophies away, but I’m worn out after another Ubisoft open world

Yeah it’s a grind for sure. I keep going back and forth on if I want to finish off killing the order members and getting Thor’s armor. Not sure it’s worth it at this point. May trade it towards Cyberpunk lol

I just kept the Raven gear and maxed all that out. Nothing else seemed worthwhile expect the Brigadine (sp) which granted bonuses when surrounded by 2 or more enemies.

I gave up on gathering fish and hunting. Tried to grind 7 bear furs. Bet I killed 30 of them at a couple locations I found and got 3 furs. frick it Ubisoft is bad about that. Same with wolf fangs. Can’t get hardly any, but I got 200 wolf claws. Who knew so many wolves have no teeth.

More I think on it, the more I think I’m good. Too frustrating to waste time hoping to get a loot drop for something that should be automatic. I’m ready for Cyberpunk 76 err, 2077.

After reading this, I think you’ve convinced me to not worry with it and go straight for Cyberpunk haha.

I think my biggest problem with the new AC games is that they all sacrifice a tight narrative for the scale of the open world.

Valhalla in particular is bereft of any overarching narrative, and the story serves primarily as a means to introduce you to the various kingdoms of Anglo Saxon England.

Every AC game after Rogue has had a very lackluster story, so I'm not sure if the new Origins style is entirely to blame, but there's just no reason for this game to be 65 hours of wheel spinning before an abrupt conclusion.

Yeah I think you're right - the main story and conclusion was very lackluster and abrupt much like you said. I enjoyed the open world and the setting, but they could've done more. I'd still recommend it to those interested in playing.

Valhalla had no ending: I kept waiting for it and it never happened. No big moment. It seemed to build, then release, build up again, release. Then it abruptly “ends”.

MGSV had a better ending and that’s saying something

Anyway, ACVal was fun. Doing raids was a blast and finding new ways to fight kept engagement relatively fresh. It kept me busy for a while. Kinda wish there was more big battles, but can’t complain too much.

This game is going to take forever. I'm 80 hours in and not even at 20% completion. I'm doing Lunden and not a 160 yet. Still a lot of fun and only play in short bursts. But this is my first AC game. Are they all this long?

That really started with Origins, I believe. They are all open world but once they dipped their toe into the RPG side of things, they started showing that Ubisoft map barf that Far Cry is known for. I don't mind side stuff but I try to streamline as much as possible because my gaming time is limited, but occasionally I'll meet a level gate that's super frustrating and I'll have to do a handful of side quests just to be able to advance the story.

I'm at level 16 of a second playthrough of Odyssey and I'm approaching 100 hours. And like I said, I don't do a ton of side content.

It was a close race for Christmas No.1 this year, with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Valhalla emerging as the No.1 physical game of the period.

It's the first time Assassin's Creed has claimed the Christmas No.1 position (and indeed, the first time for Ubisoft).

The more I play this game, the less I like it. The bugs. The crashes. That’s one thing.

The pathetic rewards for time intensive quests or enemies is fricking pathetic. The gem stones for Asgard just give you experience and skill points? GTFO. goddamn.

This isn’t amount more detailed, fewer gear. It’s about lazy as bullshite. This game is turning into an annoying grind with limited payoff. I’ll finish it. But I won’t play it again like Odyssey.
