I’ve been using the flail the last few days and I love it. It breaks through shields in no time and strings together light attacks that become more powerful with each blow.

I just tried out the dagger, it does in fact stun lock most enemies. I haven't gotten to try dual daggers which supposedly gives you more combos for it but I'm definitely gonna try a double dagger/poison combo whenever I unlock the ability.

The only downside to the dagger is you have to be right up in the enemy to hit them, which is logical, but still dangerous on harder difficulty's.

Looking at the suggested power, I think the story will bring us back to the northern region in Norway, so I’d only worry about 100%ing the southern region.

Yeah I wondered up there by accident and noticed the suggested power was 280 which seems to be the final stages of the game. I was right next to a “mystery” so said what the hell. Luckily it didn’t involve any fighting and I was able to complete it lol

Yea I'm pretty sure they intend for you to do that one on your way up to king harold's city, it's directly on the road that leads there.

Finished 100%ing the starter area and on my way to England finally. I gotta say the side missions (or as they call them in game "world events") are way better than odyssey or origins. A lot of them are pretty funny. I also like that, so far at least, when you come across an enemy camp or fort or outpost you don't have to do like five objectives to clear it. You can just sneak in, grab the wealth, and sneak out if you feel like it.

Is Valhalla as “overwhelming” as odyssey?

Odyssey simply had way too much content and map was too busy

Is Valhalla same?

No they've made a considerable effort to tone down a lot of the filler shite.

In England. At what point am I allowed to explore? What main quest do I need to finish? Because I realized I broke two quests and a key for a chest didn’t spawn because I did my own pillaging and broke the game. Three hours down the drain as I load an old save file back at the start of my settlement. Spent 45 minutes looking for this damned key only to research and see this is a known bug if you raid before the quest for it pops up.

I’m tired of open world games fkn this up. If you don’t want me to explore, then make it clear or block me somehow.

Just pick a quest arc and when it leads you to a new place then 100% it. Raid as you travel to the new locations. Hit sync points along the way as well. Otherwise I don't know that a lot of places would be too welcoming - seems like with how the story is you're kill on sight to most factions...

About 17 hrs in and loving it - don't want to put it down. It does suck getting less gear drops but when you do get them it's pretty satisfying. That said, I do wish that gear sets had bonuses for 3/5 or 4/5 pieces. When you only have a couple pieces of the set it feels pointless to equip it.

I'm about 8 hours in and loving it. Was able to tweak settings and get it running better around 100 FPS.

I like it more than Odyssey which I never finished.

Man Ragnars boy in the cave is the last side quest I have in Norway but I keep getting my arse kicked. I’ve barely done any main quests so maybe I’m just not leveled enough. Or maybe I just suck

You've got to parry his strikes. When he jumps at you he attacks three times in quick succession, if he attacks normally it's two strikes in a row. Dodge his knife throws, attack his glowing weak points with bow to break his stamina bar. Dodge when he glows red.

I just found out that this does exist. I guess I was just expecting it to show up differently

The only thing I really dont like about this game is the ration system. I can only store enough for two heals, which in these boss fights on the harder difficulties leaves very very little room for error.

I just encountered my first Zealot while wandering around the swampy area when you first get to England. He made the fight in the cave in the starter area look like a piece of cake. One hit and I'm down to only 10% health so having a very limited amount of heals made for a bitch of a fight. Is there an ability that you unlock later that lets you heal using adrenaline points like in previous games? I'm guessing not.

I was really loving running dual daggers up until that fight. They just dont do enough damage fast enough to bosses, the longer the fight goes on the higher chance you have to frick up and die. I switched to dual heavy weapon (spear and dane axe) and the fight went so much smoother. I cant recommend enough taking the time to put some points into the stealth tree to get the ability that slows down time when you dodge attacks. It's a life saver in these boss fights.

Make a priority to upgrade your rations. I'm at 3 and rarely use them.

Also work to get the skill Grit in the Wolf tree - successful melee attacks help refill your missing health. There's a couple good defensive skills worth seeking out - one slows time when you're close to death (last chance healing - Wolf skill line) , another slows time when you successfully dodge (brush with death - Raven skill line) . Those 3 are really useful in melee combat.

Yea I've got brush with death, makes boss fights a lot more tolerable. Gonna grab Grit too, sounds like it'll help a lot. I've upgraded my rations a couple of times, I'm just really bad at remembering to refill them which comes back to bite me on the arse a lot.

I have paid very little attention and have no idea what trees I've went, but I went with HP and long/short damage.

I believe you can reset at any time so I figure I'll just look up a build once it starts to get a bit harder and follow a build for my playstyle.

I keep hitting content walls. The first one was 90 then 130. The jumps in power between the campaign arcs are too large.

I just don't find the side content as rewarding this time around. I can't be bothered to spend 30 minutes hunting for a key to a locked door or a vase I can blow up to revel a hole in the wall to slip through so that I can loot a chest, so I just end up ignoring a lot of that.

The world events are nice, but some of them are difficult to figure out exactly what you're supposed to do. There really aren't enough raids per power level, and some of the world events are oddly placed and out of sync with the level of everything else around them.

Uh.... cuz Vikings > Egyptians

This is in no way shape or form a dis on the ancient Egyptians bc that setting is also badass, just not “high on mushrooms, half naked swinging two two handed axes in a blood rage” level badass.
