I'm digging it so far, still in the starter area though, gotta 100% it before I move on to England. I agree with yall that the skill tree is meh, should let you see everything from the get go but you can generally tell what each branch will lead you to. Side quests are a lot better so far, atleast more interesting than Odyssey.

It starts a lot slower than Odyssey/Origins, combats kinda uninspired until you get some abilities. I'm probably in the minority but I also like not having a million pieces of largely useless gear thrown at me all the time. I've had the same gear for like 3 hours now and I've gotten rather attached to my big 2h axe. Getting a new weapon or piece of armor feels like a big deal.

It also feels a lot harder than previous AC's. I'm on the 2nd highest difficulty and theres been some parts that have knocked me on my arse (primarily that fricking fight in the cave with Ragnar's bro). They nerfed the hell out of your bird vision too which I have mixed feelings on. I dont really see the point in having the bird if you cant mark enemies anymore, but I do like that stealth is harder now that you cant mark an entire enemy base before you even set foot into it.

I wouldn't bother to 100% the starting area, the game opens up so much when you get to England.

The raven is pretty pointless, the Odin vision or whatever basically replaces it. I've only found the raven useful to scout for underground entrances to things really.

Oh I know, but my OCD won't let me move on until I collect everything . I'm there now, might as well get it all out of the way.

Buddy got me the hookup for a free physical copy. Decided to grab it for PS4//5.

Install. I assumed it’ll install the PS5 version. Why the f would I want the PS4 version on my PS5? Didn’t know any better and it doesn’t tell you anything. Finished install and man the game looks like a PS3 game compared to Ghost of Tsushima and Demon’s Souls. I remebered your post from last page about the digital store and sure enough, even a physical version defaults to PS4 version. Now I’m picking my arse waiting for another 41GB download and install for the right version.

Sony sucks a veiny one for being this PITA. This is shite Nintendo does.

Anyway, game seems alright. Nothing like to write home about. Female VA is awful. Restarting as a dude. I got enough lady testosterone from TLOU2.

Same. I cleared half the side stuff before I even went to my home island which was like the 3rd quest

I fricking love this game. As someone who hasn’t played AC since 1 and 2 I don’t really have the others to compare it too like everyone else and I think that helps. I don’t really even view it as an AC game, more just a Vikings game and as someone who watched the whole Vikings series on History over the summer and is now obsessed with all things Vikings this game just does it for me. It’s absolutely gorgeous, I could run around on snowy mountain tops knocking out side quests for days and sail through the icy waters listening to Nordic hymns for hours.

Playing on hard and the combat isn’t souls hard but still challenging. 3 hits will kill you. Took me several tries to kill that huge Elk in that one side quest and I had to put a pin in Ragnars boy in the cave, he’s to high level for me for now. I play games mostly to get lost in a big open world with a captivating story and prefer not to spend hours learning a level and craft system so the simplicity of the leveling and abilities is totally cool with me

I may be putting cyberpunk on the back burner until I platinum this one, really enjoying it

Yeah that old man in the cave is a motherfricker to deal with... gonna make sure I'm strong enough next time. Hoping they patch the screen tearing on the series x.

Surprisingly I killed the elk on my first try, his attack pattern was a lot easier for me I guess. The dude in the cave literally one shot my arse the first time I fought him. I thought there was gonna be some kind of transition into the fight after talking to him, nope, just immediately starts wailing on your arse. Like you I came back after a few levels to finish him and it was still pretty challenging.

One thing I found is you can target his weak spots with your bow to break his stamina bar to be able to inflict a large chunk of damage to him early in the fight. Parrying him does the same thing but you risk fricking it up and taking damage that way.

Yeah the Elk was easy as frick to time but I was doing so little damage with every attack that I would get impatient and try to get a few more hits in between parrys and pay for it. Finally made it a long fight and stayed patient and hacked away centimeter by centimeter

What weapon are you using? I've been using the big two handed axe and have a lot of skills in + heavy damage so my heavy attacks do pretty good chunks. Heavy attacks arnt always an option though in some of these fights, they get punished really badly.

On these boss fights like the elk and the dude in the cave I think you wanna deplete their stamina bar (or whatever it's called, the bar over their health bar) so you get the R3 prompt and do big damage to them. Hitting their weak spots with arrows and parrying attacks seems to be the way you deplete it.

I’m dual wielding axes, but I haven’t upgraded them much I been saving my materials to upgrade my ration pack which takes alot so that’s probably my issue. I have a good bit of silver now thought so I’ll probably buy a good bit of materials and dump them all on my weapons. I used the 2 handed axe for a little while just didn’t like how slow it was. May come back to it eventually

Dual 2 hand axe is where it’s at. Gotta get the perk from the bear tree though

I've heard dual daggers with poison is OP. You can apparently stun lock opponents with daggers. I just found one last night so I'm gonna give it a shot tonight.

Am I missing something with the deer antlers you have to collect for the lady in your home town? Every time I kill a deer all I get is leather and a hoof, no antlers. Am I not killing the right type or what?

You killing Bambi, Bambi’s mom, or Bambi’s dad?

Horns only drop from some of Bambi’s dads.

Looking at the suggested power, I think the story will bring us back to the northern region in Norway, so I’d only worry about 100%ing the southern region.
