Yes, there are whales willing to pay for status in any type of game.

Ok

I thought it was just a nuisance.

Just another reason I'm completely happy to be an almost exclusively single player gamer.

I love my Chinese gold farmers. I spent another $22 Tuesday evening buying a couple items.

I think the only way is Developers are going to have to legally go after cheaters. Make it too expensive to cheat.

The problem is this is too expensive for them to litigate at that level. It's like when record labels tried to go after individual users of Napster.

KR and CN have had this for ages. Not for all games but a good amount.

And those are still two of the largest cheater bases in the world

Russia is actually #1. China is #5, KR doesn't crack the list and is the strictest with social security number required to make accounts.

That's not how kernel level anti-cheat or IP bans even work.

And both can easily be spoofed or replaced.

All this does is invade our privacy even more.

Fake ID doesn't work in Korea, they require your registered resident ID number to make an account or alien registration card number for foreigners that live there. Get perma banned for cheating or behavior and you're done on that game.

This guy used a computer vision program to detect enemies in real time and send an electric pulse to his trigger finger faster than his eyes/brain could do it.

you be amazed at what cheat companies can do.

one game i play has cheaters who use programs that can track enemies, give distance reports, auto aim, headshot aim, instakill. one dude was literally running around the game flinging other characters miles into the atmosphere.

marvel rivals is one example where you can.

people sell boosted accounts for cash. People who arent good enough to get a certain rank but want to say they are will pay money for it.

use a cheat to farm those ranks and selling accounts is a big thing in that game.

What are examples of ways people cheat that have made it such an extreme issue?

People using wall hacks and aim bot on any FPS game make it basically unplayable.

Sure you can change the fun of the game to "kill the cheater", but that gets old after about 10 minutes.

Games like League of Legends have cheats where people will automatically dash/flash away from enemies when you use abilities to kill them. That and they can use cheats to see through the fog of war.

ETA: Having to provide a government ID seems a bit much. If you are going to do that, why not just go the Korean route and have it tied to your phone number?

Great, not only is my identity being stolen and used at Boost Mobile stores, but now it's being stolen and used to cheat at fortnite.

People hate on crypto, but this is the perfect use case of cryptography. Tie your id to a cryptographic proof that can be used in a zk verification.

Wait, what? I thought the whole purpose of crypto was decentralization so that nobody can find me.
