well it's a good think a market exists and gets to reward/punish these sorts of decisions of companies

It's pretty funny seeing everyone meltdown and bitch about the place closing, when in reality they probably never even went there to support it which is why Zee Zee's is closing. It's over.

LOL at the people bitching about Happy's going into that spot .. it is the same ones bitching about Ivar's and their drink prices .. This is how our free market works .. enjoy it ..

Not a fan of a 3rd happys opening but it will undoubtedly do more business than ZeeZee's and I could see it becoming the most popular bar at the underpass. Funny since everyone here opposes the idea.

sounds like it. for supposedly offering so much to the market, it doesn't seem like the market valued what it offered

now, if this was a lease issue? different story. i don't know the details, but that wouldn't indicate a failing business

that's EXACTLY why they oppose it

the southdowns mafia seems to be scared of change, which is funny considering how they hold themselves out to be

a corporation is a corporation

but a corporation is just a legal status that offers limited liability of ownership. it's not some evil term

there are probably millions of corporations in america that are wholly owned by less than 3 people

*ETA: i bet you ivars, duvics, chelseas, and zee zee gardens are all corporations, LPs, or LLCs. so your point?

That's just it though. People aren't saying it's going to crash and burn. i think if anything, they're most upset knowing that it will change the area if it succeeds and brings in the Tigerland/Downtown folk that seem to enjoy Happy's. People who frequent Southdowns LIKE it because of what it is. I don't love overpass bars because of the physical bars/buildings. I love them because of the bartenders, the patrons, and the environment that exists within them. The type of people at Southdowns bars will not be frequenting Happy's.. it will be a breed of people I go to overpass to avoid :/

It's not being "afraid of change" if there are already two of the exact same place in the city. There's nothing CHANGE-oriented about Happy's since we have two already.. We're aware of what it is. And it exists already.

If we wanted to go to those places, we would. Why should we be forced to have something that already exists in various parts of the city move into the area we enjoy for what it already is?

I think this discussion is getting way too far into over-analyzation that it's looking stupid. Plain and simple.. overpass has a niche and the people who support it like it. They're just upset, and I think that's perfectly understandable. I don't see why people being upset that their block of neighborhood bars is getting a chain is all that shocking. I'll be the first to admit ZeeZee's is always the least crowded of the overpass bars, so maybe financially it needed to go. But I think people are just upset that of all things, a Happy's is taking it's place.

And like I said in the thread on the OT, where the hell are they going to find even more girls to put on the skank outfit? I'm the exact demographic of girls who work at these places and I'm telling ya.. there can't be too many left willing to work in that place considering Hooters, Twin Peaks, AND Happys/WalkOns/Roux House are all advertising that they need employees right now.

Even disregarding the outfits, it's pretty well-known between girls my age that Last In is not the greatest company to work for. I've heard several stories of chicks who quit out of rage. Are they shipping in employees?

This won't change.

I said in the OT thread that both types of bars can be successful.

the southdowns mafia seems to be scared of change.

Which is exactly why you go from four lane College to two lane 1950's Lee Drive.

I believe it was said the Reilly's sold the building so I'm guessing the lease was just lost. That place financially should have been doing fine. It had a built in clientele. I haven't been in a long time but when I lived in that area, which was for thirty years, I spent many evenings there.

To elaborate: Zee Zees wasn't failing. The building was sold out from under wilson and he is losing the lease.

He has tried to buy the land and building many times before and the Reilly's refused to sell it, due to a bill board or something like that.

The turnover rate in that company is ungodly. People quit constantly, and they also get fired constantly for the most minor of shite. Knew one girl who got fired because the other girl she got to cover her shift didn't show.

I like the overpass area because you know what you're gonna get. It's a comfortable environment and it doesnt need to be infiltrated by a bunch of Shane's from DS.

Also, Happy's is a fake Irish Bar...seriously. Who is Happy? I know Ivar is an old man from Irland and made his way down here via New York. Happy's was created to get that Irish Bar "feel" downtown.

Not to be picky or anything, it just doesnt feel authentic and there is already two of them in BR....so why not leave them where they are.

P.S. I always walk into Ivars with my first drink (made in my kitchen) in hand...They dont care beacuse they know I'm not a piece of trash that will go out to the car and refill all night because beers are $.75 more expensive than anywhere else.

Im not going to say it again...you pay for your company.
