People aren't saying its going to fail and that seems to be what you're arguing against.

i'm not saying it will or won't fail. i'm saying if it doesn't fail, that's a good thing and should be celebrated. i think most people assume it won't fail and that IS what they don't want

it's only one bar of a handful in that area. if they continue to support the other bars, the area won't be ruined

You think it was pure capitalism is what is causing Zee Zee's to close. Nothing could be further from the truth.

was government used to close down zee zees? if not, then i don't see how your point is true

even if it's a lease issue, which i already referenced as a possibility, that's still capitalism. if the lease was broken against the terms of the lease, the former owner of zee zees can sue to recover damages. that's part of capitalism. contracts and protection of ocntracts are foundational to capitalism

was government used? if so then i agree and that is terrible and i do not support it

No

Because you are ignorant about the details.

if it's a lease issue,

Partly true, but that only scratches the surface. There is a hell of a lot more to the story.

quote:

if

Your use of "if" means you are ignorant to the details and really just throwing around concepts that suit your point of view.

So I will say again, you are trying to use a round peg for a square hole.

Free market will certainly pervail. Zee Zee's is free to look for another space.. Downtown might be a good move.. New digs, a fresh start.. Zee Zee's always had a lawyerly crowd so why not Downtown? I hope they do open up somewhere else and kick major butt.

if there is a contract that was broken, he has recourse through the courts. he can sue for damages

there is nothing immoral about breaking a contract, as long as government doesn't prevent recovery of damages

let's assume there was a broken contract. the person who broke it is liable for damages...in this instance expected profits over the course fo the remainder of the lease. if that amount is less than the advantage gained by breaking the lease, then it's smart business

zee zees gets paid their damages, the owner moves to a more profitable venture, and people move on

that IS capitalism

they're objective comments that apply in any situation. they apply here, regardless what follows the "if"

Ignorance is truly bliss isn't it? Isn't it wonderful to live in a pretend world where you pontificate about economic theories all you want. That pretend world even allows you to cast judgements without knowing a single detail.

And honestly Slowpro, I am sorry that you have never experienced a place like that. I am sorry that you can only see black and white and don't see the shades of gray. I am sorry that you only carry around round pegs thinking they will fit in every hole you see. If they don't fit, then you think everything else is wrong other than your pegs.

Anyway, sorry to see it go. Not sure that its going to reopen because of the hassle of it. It was a great bar with outstanding customer service.

I live in the area and I dont want to see a Happys either. I just hope they come in, Clean the place up, make it non smoking and add a patio or something. I wish they would keep the name ( because I like it) and that it will give competition to Ivars (BC $8 beers suck). I also think if Zee Zee's were to move, they should goto Govt/Mid City. JMO

Happy's Irish Pub expected to replace Zee Zee Gardens Zee Zee Gardens, a well-known neighborhood watering hole near the Perkins Road overpass, will likely close its doors for good later this spring. Daily Report has learned a deal is in the works to sell the midcentury, cinder-block building to Last In Concepts Inc.'s Jack Warner and Brandon Landry, who are planning to convert the bar into a Happy's Irish Pub. Kevin Reilly Jr., who owns the building, is out of the country and could not be reached for comment, and Warner declines to discuss the deal until it is finalized. However, sources say Last In Concepts—which owns three other Happy's pubs in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, as well as Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar and several other downtown establishments—tried unsuccessfully three years ago to buy Zee Zee's. The bar's longtime owner, Wilson Cox, did not return calls requesting comment, but social media sites have been abuzz this week with postings from Zee Zee regulars who are upset about the pending changes.

Exactly. He flipped the thread around to debate in a point that nobody was interested in discussing on the F&D board.

Like I said, they have an OT thread for that bullshite.

Nobody is impressed with his ability to discuss legal contracts and free market like he's enlightening people to a new school of thought. The thread was/isn't about that. Just dumb.

I bet this one will be smoking as well.

I really would love to have seen a local chef been able to procure the spot and make it some sort of restaurant/deli/bar/whatever that serves food.

Every time I've been by, they've had business, frequent lines out of the door and a full patio outside.

eta: I like the space and the location.

Seem to be doing very well in both. I've stayed around the corner at Hyatt several times in the last few months and Friday-Sunday both have been very busy almost every time I've walked by.

Not sure how the Mon-Thurs crowd does, but just like the LSU location, they are killing it during football season.
