It's pretty funny seeing everyone meltdown and bitch about the place closing, when in reality they probably never even went there to support it which is why Zee Zee's is closing. It's over.
Well its obvious that you haven't been reading the thread. The people who are lamenting Zee Zee's closing are people who went there a lot.
Zee Zee's was doing just fine. Wilson had all the business he wanted. Thats not the reason it is closing. The Reilly's sold the building to the clowns who own Walk On's. They are voiding the lease.

now, if this was a lease issue? different story. i don't know the details, but that wouldn't indicate a failing business
Thats it. Building was sold and then the lease was voided.

it just doesnt feel authentic and there is already two of them in BR....so why not leave them where they are.
because they are successful and people like them?
it's just a bar...not a piece of art
i mean i used to go to happys a lot, and the clientele wasn't really much different than southdowns
it's not like city bar is moving in

A better term would be chain. They will put a chain bar in.

it's not some evil term
A chain bar is evil if you want good customer service. Bartenders have no freedom to take care of regulars. Servers/bartenders will change on a daily basis. Sammy's bar service even sucks now.
If you like chain restaurants and bars - great. BR has plenty of them. If you want neighborhood bars then better go now because they are dying on the vine.

Then you just don't understand - and you probably never will understand it.
Its much more than a building with servers that give you a drink. It is a club house. Its a locker room. Its a hiding spot. It is where a regular group of people are served by people who take care of you. Its a place where you share funny, and sad, stories. Its a place to make friends and reacquaint with old ones. If you have old friends from out of town come in you want to be able to call the bartender that you know and say "Put their tab on me and I will be in tomorrow to pay for it." It's old school.
Frankly, its customer service. Customer service is mentioned somewhere on page 97 of the chains' employee handbook.

No. The clientele was probably very similar. BUT, I bet the service is much worse. I am willing to bet they had those little pour regulators on top of the bottles.

Its obvious that you know not of what you speak. Capitalism has nothing to do with it.
Thanks for playing.

ok great but that's irrelevant...if happys doesn't offer this then you won't go there. if that area requires this sort of special service, and happys won't provide it, it will fail.
nobody is putting a gun to your head to pay money to a business who doesn't offer that idiosyncratic treatment, so i don't see how you can claim you're upset. simple solution: don't go there
zee zees isn't coming back (at least in the short term), so you'd be adjusting regardless

and obviously BR doesn't require this elite level of customer service, at least in other areas
if happys has shite service, and if BR demands it, then happys would never have succeeded
maybe southdowns will be different? maybe it won't? we will see how the market responds

The way you were talking and reasoning with us, the whole world might as well be a walmart cause hey..... they serve the market

Same circumstances that caused the closing of Southdowns, after 40 years of operation. And how have the businesses that replaced Southdowns fared? What, are we on the third try in the past couple of years?
The biggest problem with another Happy's (from the point of view of a typical male)-BR has WAY overreached with these bars and restaurants that serve average to below average food and beverages and use T&A to draw a crowd. The result is that the talent level of the young ladies plying said bad offerings has been diluted to the point that it's difficult to find decent looking staff. Compared to the girls that used to work there when there was one Happy's, one Walk-Ons and one Hooters, if you go into any version of those, Twin Peaks, etc., there might be one gem and a bunch of scantily clad

You don't get it. Fine. The world needs people like you too.
Again, you have no idea what you are talking about. No clue. You are just spouting something that you learned in Econ 101. Congrats for having a good memory.
See, thats the great thing about knowing the bar owner and landlord. You can call them to find out whats going on.
You enjoy antiseptic chains. BR should be perfect for you. Its obvious you were never a regular somewhere - anywhere - that old school service was given, valued and thus rewarded.
Thanks for playing.

That seems fairly obvious. He understands the point of the thread and the issues people have, and everybody in the thread understands how the frickin market works. He seems to think he's enlightening the F&D board w/ his profound knowledge of capitalism. Back to the OT.

walmart does, and they do better than possibly any other company other than exxon
i don't shop at walmart, but walmart is amazing and great. i never understand why people dislike walmart as a company
i can understand why you might not like individual stores, but nobody is forcing you to go (me either. it's not my cup of tea so i don't go). that's an entirely different concept
people just have a slanted view of the entrepreneur and capitalism. i don't typically get the chance to talk about this outside of the political board, so i jumped on it

que? there is nothing inconsistent with these views
i appreciate companies that serve society, even if they don't offer what i prefer (like walmart)
i do not vilify those who run these companies who make money, because they deserve it for serving the market so well
i believe in letting the market sort out what it does and doesn't want

You're missing the point though. People aren't saying its going to fail and that seems to be what you're arguing against.
Nowhere in this thread did people say no one will step in this bar and its a waste of time. If anything, they're complaining that their beloved neighborhood bar area will be ruined.
And you're just chatting about the market....
People are talking about how they feel. And you're reciting economics.

Its a simple question - Are you the pot or kettle?
You mentioned a slanted view of capitalism. It sounds as if you are the one with a slanted view. Or at least you are trying to make a round peg fit in a square hole. You think it was pure capitalism is what is causing Zee Zee's to close. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yet, you are trying to throw your simplistic arguement around like it is the answer to everything. BUT, since I am assuming you don't know the details you are the one with the slanted view.
Look, its obvious that you could care less about customer service. You are no different that society as a whole. People are much more interested in cheaper prices and quick fixes than customer service. Thats fine. I'm all for the free market.
What I don't like is when the free market doesn't prevail. You make it sound like the bottom line won. It didn't.
That's just fine if that were the case.
