Similar, from the founders of Vega Tapas Cafe and Station 6:
Coming in November
"Vega-Knoll and Wilson each come to the project with long histories in New Orleans food. Vega-Knoll, who created Vega Tapas Cafe in the 1990s, is chef and co-founder of Station 6, the popular modern seafood restaurant in Bucktown."
"Wilson calls the concept a “kicked-up market,” with grab-and-go dishes, family-sized meals for home, and tables for a sandwich, a salad and a glass of wine on the spot.
The market will open in a stand-alone building along a busy stretch of retail businesses near Causeway Boulevard. It was previously a location of New Orleans Coffee & Beignet Co.
For some, the concept may bring to mind Foodies Kitchen, the market opened in Metairie by the Commander’s Palace branch of the Brennan family back in 1999 (it later expanded with an Uptown location, but both closed)."
"The deli cases will have cold salads – noodle salad, Mexican street corn salad, good old chicken salad – and prepared platters of everything from crab cakes to escargot. Charcuterie and specialty cheeses will have their own area, and so will the take-and-heat soups and dips and other dishes. The Larder will stock beer and wine.
A grassy stretch out front will have picnic tables to dig in right away outdoors too.
The idea combines the two chefs’ experiences in the business with the way they like to cook at home."

Will they have bread samples in the evening along with 25cent rain vodka martinis? #PoorCollegeKidFoodiesMemories

Was just reading this. Its an interesting concept.
I'll check it out for the charcuterie when I'm in Metry.

I'm looking forward to this place.
Foodie's seemed like a great idea, but I guess it was timed a little too early to have success.
I've always liked whatever Vega-Knoll has put out there.

Foodies was also trying to be too many things at once—retail groceries, made to order food, prepackaged to go stuff, bakery, deli, etc. It was not enough of a grocery store for people to do a “full shop”, so most ppl went for casual dining. I liked it, bc they were using better quality ingredients in sandwiches and salads than other local places at the same pricing point. I ate my fair share of turkey/avocado/blue cheese/sprout sandwiches back in the day.

Yay, something else to compete with trying to park at Trader Joes.

When I used to go to TJ's I would park in that lot every time. Now that you I'm assuming can't, TJ's is going to be even more of a total shitshow.

Did any restaurant or other business open back up in place of where the Grill or whatever it was called was located in that shopping center?
I would imagine if that had ever been real busy it really would have people parking all over the damn place.

I have faith in both Vega and Wilson and the concept. What I am struggling with and trying to figure out is the rent. This specific location for a concept like this will be tough to draw the people in to pay rent and the food cost. I maybe wrong but, a fast food location is built on volume not gourmet. Rent has to be about $15k, plus build-out, food cost, and labor. The Food will be of high quality coming from 2 veteran chefs. I will frequent, I just hope it survives as a new concept in a high rent area that is located away from their demographics.

Keesler financial credit union opened there.
The grill lacked identity or feel of any sort. Went once ordered a party melt and chocolate freeze. Felt like I was eating in a warehouse.

Last time I dined in foodies was a late morning after a night of debauchery, which included our British friend puking in front of Bruno’s bar around 4 am.
On our way back to Baton Rouge, we decided to stop here to eat. My buddy and I went to fill our plastic cups in the drink machine area. They had a nice table of old ladies sitting adjacent to the machines. When my buddy was filling up his drink, he let the loudest fart rip. It was likely heard on the opposite end of the restaurant over all of the commotion. The old ladies were so disgusted they couldn’t think of anything to say.
The food was ok.
Good memories from that place.

I lived on the Foodie's Uptown back in the day. The turkey sandwich was killer, and they had quarters of Commander's Palace turtle soup.

Wasn’t it in that little pink building on St Charles sort of near Broadway that’s been a million different things? I think it was last some sort of outpost of Willie Maes Chicken.

Yeah, that was their main original location. They opened a little outpost at that little restaurant graveyard building on way upper St. Charles for a hot minute. I thought that's what he was asking about.
