I like the idea of being able to use a single machine to grill or smoke. Everything I read is positive.

Traegers are expensive but are sort of the gold standard I guess. What about Camp Chef? Rectec? Pit Boss? I don’t need to spend $1300 on a basic unit. Hep a brotha out

I have a Yoder pellet smoker and love it. Love my Masterbuilt 560 gravity fed even more, does it all.

Yes. Results are not as good as a stick burner, but it's about 20% as difficult and labor intensive.

I have a masterbuilt one that I got from sam's club. Coming from an electric wood chips smoker you will not get the bark you get with other smokers. But the flavor and everything is still great just don't expect super dark bark on anything you cook

I got a rectec about 2 months ago and love it. I’ve been very pleased with the results of my smokes

Throw a pellet tube in there for decent bark

Camp Chef Woodwind owner here. I’ve cranked out some of my best brisket on mine. Great smoke ring on ever cook I’ve done. I don’t think the Trager does anything different than the camp chef. Check out the Rec Tec smokers also. I’d say they are the gold standard over the Trager.

Weber is coming out with a line of pellet smokers also.

They actually released them in February of this year. Some issues at launch and the first few months, but I think it was overblown by an extremely vocal minority. It's a totally different feed design from all the others. Seems to be very top notch as long as you don't do stupid shite like smoke 4 pork butts and still expect it to be immune to grease fires. They made updates to the augers system, hopper, and a lot of programming updates to the controller to better control temp. It's getting pretty solid reviews now.

No. Just don’t. What’s the point if you’re not going to do it right? Just get some takeout from somewhere.

If you're looking for good BBQ with little to no effort at all, then pellet is probably the way to go. I don't have one, but several of my friends do and the BBQ is good for sure. If you want great BBQ and like tinkering with fire like I do, then nothing will replace an offset smoker.
