The restraint it's taking me not to make an OT comment about that picture right this second almost hurts.

Read the book Heat about a writer who works in his restaurant and Batali himself talks the whole book about groping women. He’s a slob.

If you were as ugly as Mario , you'd have to grope for satisfaction too.

Martini, I read this book. I’ll admit it’s been a while, but I don’t recall any groping stories about Mario. Lots of getting drunk stories.
Disappointing day about one of my favorite chefs.

Is it possible you’re thinking of Restaurant Man by Joe Bastianich?

I've never been a big fan of Mario as a TV host. His personality on Molto Mario was always a little too douchey/snobby to me.

I also wondered, based on a certain swishiness he has, if he might be a closeted gay. I guess not. No news yet of that sort of harassment.

Heat by Bill Buford definitely peeled back a bit of the mystic behind Batali. IIRC, the two had a falling out after the book was published.

Again, and this is not to diminish the claims or excuse the behavior, the Buford book came out while chefs were still transitioning from macho, swaggering pirates (as portrayed by Bourdain) to international heads of business empires. We craved chefs, and stories about them, who were “not normal” and played by a different set of rules and decorum. Passages in Heat made it clear that Batali did what he wanted and no one stopped him. Of course, a lot of that romantic, initial portrayal of a cook’s life all stems from Marco Pierre White and the publication of White Heat, who incidentally Mario worked for.

No it was Heat. In Restaurant Man it was drinking and being “a cheap frick” as Joe Bastianich said about 5000 times.

I listened to Restaurant Man and Joe was the narrator as well and that took a bit. I enjoyed the book but he’s very full of himself and everything is someone else’s fault and he says frick every other sentence which shows me nothing.

I have Marco Pierre White’s “The Devil in the Kitchen.” Downloaded and am about ready to listen to it.

And Bill Buford, who wrote Heat was born in Baton Rouge. Just a fun fact.

I "met" Bill Buford in Lyon, France and he could not have been more of a prick. I put met in quotations because I saw him at the Quai Saint-Antoine market one day and approached him to introduce myself and tell him I was a fan/thank him for his article in the Guardian describing the best places to eat in Lyon... he literally would not look me in the eye or acknowledge me. frick that guy.

If you have never worked in a restaurant, this is how about 75% of Chef's are. I worked with 10-15 Chef's through HS and college. They work long crappy hours and its a crappy job usually, I think it weeds out most of the good people.

I'd say 75% are complete pricks, 10-15% are really great, and 10-15% are somewhere in the middle.

Not bad statistics but Buford isnt a chef. He was a writer. And close to 90% of all writers are complete pricks.
