With so many reports of restaurants (both local and chain) going belly up, it's refreshing to see a company pushing forward with a plan to open quite a few locations in Louisiana. The national hot-dog restaurant chain known as Wienerschnitzel is that trailblazer.

Yesterday, Wienerschnitzel Director of Franchise Development Ted Milburn made the announcement during an interview with Franchising.com. Milburn claimed that the Louisiana deal inked with Lake Charles-based, Henderson Family Restaurants was one of 2 agreements signed recently that will greatly expand Wienerschnitzel's presence in the south. According to the report, all of the stores will be built and opened over a 13-year period.

Wienerschnitzel > Dat Dog

As an added bonus, it's like 1/10 the price.

There used to be one near the north gates of campus but it was demolished years ago. Weirdest looking building.

The one on Highland? Pretty sure it's still there.

It’s definitely still there

I could be found there at 2:30am on many occasions back in the day. Nothing like a wiener dog and chili fries after Murphy's, Sports, and/or Fred's!!

Their hot dogs are really good, but personally, I prefer Sonic. The sonic footlong chili cheese coney just hits the spot for me.

Is it really? My memory is foggy. I thought it was demolished when they put in that strip mall

I make a better dog with an Oscar Mayer weiner and sure fine buns with hormel canned chili than Dat Dig makes.

So much nostalgia from LSU alums around the old Schnitz on Highland—but I don’t know if contemporary tastes really want a hot dog focused fast food joint these days.

WTF is Wards?

I'm partial to Sonic for the coney's, burgers and knuckle checks.
