Big Mike's BBQ in Houma is pretty damn legit. If I lived there, I'd visit once a week. Only ate there once, but I was impressed.

IMO best BBQ in south louisiana..

I have eaten Dreamland , Corky's, and County Line ( not sure if any are award winning) and TJ Ribs is as good as any of them, probably better.

Podnuhs has good BBQ.

Of all the places that have great BBQ do any have great seafood options? FTR I think Memphis & KC have best BBQ...Texas BBQ sucks.

I did BBQ in Prairieville, it did pretty good.

It was good. A hole in the wall type place but a little bigger. We need more of that kind of BBQ and less big brands. Dreamland was a letdown, TJ Ribs and Voodoo are ok.

Hell yeah. I didn't even know this was debatable.

If you say this, I doubt you've had real hill country barbecue..like the smoke houses in luling and lockhart..They do beef like no other. I've been to oklahoma joes and gates in KC, and while they are delicious, the hill country barbecue is top notch. The mainstream texas bbq places, however, are just like regular ol louisiana cue..uninspired.

Louisiana could have its own barbecue style, and some places do..johnson's in lafayette is one. Why we don't have more, I dunno. Cajun spiced bbq with jack millers style sauce would be a unique take on barbecue that would fit in nicely in the south.

What characteristics would you apply to "Louisiana BBQ"?

Cochon de Lait po boy for the win.

All day long.

I had one of those a few years back in NOLA and it beat most of the Alabama BBQ I've had. Serve it on french bread, too.

I guess my point was they don't have the seafood options we do.

I had county line in Corpus...a Texan told me how great it was and it was good but didn't live up to the hype. Had BBQ a few times in Houston and wasn't impressed.

I like good baked beans and I hate the Texas style beans. Not a huge fan of brisket. I prefer ribs when I eat BBQ. I can do them myself as good as most restraints I've had. I would rather get together and BBQ than to go out and eat BBQ.

You're probably right. And I get why they can't have more seafood choice up there like we do but I don't get the reverse.

I make barbecue shrimp all the time. But that's not what you're talking about.

Also, before I put pork ribs on the grill, I boil them for 10-15 minutes in crab boil, then grill them with a spicey sweet BBQ sauce
