Bought a few pounds of wings... Planning on grilling them. Do you normally section them or just cook them as is?

On the grill I leave them whole.

Whole on the grill. They are way too easy to slip through the grates on some grills, especially the thin pieces next to the wing tip. I will lop off the very tip of the wing since there's no real meat to be had, but leave the other 2 pieces connected.

I do part them when broiling them.

I cut the tips off if they’re still on there and leave the two sections attached.

With the price of wings these days, I'm buying thighs. I was at Walmart yesterday and the price diff is absurd.

Grilling/baking/smoking = whole

Frying = cut into sections

I’ve cooked them both ways. Lately I’ve been cutting that tip off since that part isn’t edible. I’ve been smoking them around 250 degrees then crisping them up over high heat right before I’m ready to pull them off to eat. I’ve noticed I can cut them into sections very easy with a sharp knife after cooking them if that’s the way you want to eat or serve your family or guest. You really don’t even notice you sectioned them after cooking. For what it’s worth in my opinion the wings stay juicer and don’t dry out as bad when cooking them whole.

Congratulations on the loan, grill or oven? I just let them be. A connoisseur of chicken wings wants a chicken wing, not cut up pieces of a chicken wing. Spice them up however you want, dry or wet, maybe both and let them set for a night a night and have your way. Grill or oven, doesn’t really matter.

Cut off that flipper and that's it.

Packs of wings at Kroger the other day were about $20 each.

Same size packs of breasts were a little over $10.

When I was at LSU, we bought wings because they were as cheap as feet. How times have changed.

Dang. I didn’t realize the tip wasn’t edible. I’ve been doing it wrong all these years!

Me too. I love munching on the tip. Had a fried turkey leg last night with the tip last night. Obviously, some of the bone isn't edible, but it was crunchy and tasty.
