I was in Calandro's today and saw Jay D is selling coffee now. Not sure the price but it was a 8 ounce bag. I'm sure someone will complain about it soon enough.

I have to give the guy props. I may be wrong, but I've never read that he has any kitchen/restaurant experience or that he is professionally trained. Yet he has built quite an empire in his hometown. He won't be the next Donald Link or John Besh since he doesn't come off as someone with very advanced cooking technique, but his niche in the food world is working for him. He's like the Guy Fieri of Baton Rouge, and I don't dislike Guy.

I agree, clearly is building a nice little business but the lack of experience shows in all of his products.

Or if it has anything to do with BR, even if its good, people will still shite on it.

God forbid someone tries to improve the culinary environment in BR that people constantly downplay and complain about.

I was under the impression that he worked in restaurant kitchens before, but didn't have formal culinary training. Is this wrong?

How is he improving the culinary environment? Honest question.

Supporting and pushing local BR businesses
Putting out products and services
Went on a national cooking show and plugged BR/La every chance he got

You may not like his products but you have to respect the man for his passion. He could just as easily move to a large city, expand his blog, be a food critic and do well. But clearly he'd rather be here.

You cant complain about the BR food scene and at the same time complain about someone trying to improve it.

Just seems he would rather make money than improve the culinary environment.

Everything he does has been done here before just not with his name on it.

I can't imagine he did anything beyond your basic line cook in a BR restaurant or else we'd know about it and it would be in his bio online.
