While I consider myself very well versed with bourbon, I'm still a complete scotch noob. The Glenfiddich 14 was ok but not something I think I'll keep going back to. What I like about HW Campfire is the smoke flavor. Thats peat right? Should I be looking to try an Islay? Lagavulin possibly?

blatantly plagiarized from google

Peat is moss common to many Scotch distilling regions in Scotland. The moss is dried and used to fuel the fires in the kilns used to dry the malted barley. Toasting the barley with the peat moss fires gives the whisky a smoky flavor. The more Peat that's used in the fires, the smokier the single malt will be.

Now be very careful.... Islay is a different world. Personally I am not a fan but some like it. Also, IMHO, the Islay scotches require a much higher quality vs some of the other regions. 10yo Laphroaig is horrific. I mean bad!!! But 18yo Laphroaig isn't bad.

Lagavulin is good. Taliskers is also very good.

If I were to wade in the direction, I would start with the Talisker Storm. Good scotch. Good price.

BTW: All scotch drinkers are pricks. They just are.

i have no problem with it done this way. I didnt like the idea of raffles a few years ago when it was just getting popular but you could still find on a shelf. these days I'll just take my chances with a raffle as most stores around town have ridiculously long waiting lists, etc and it doesnt really matter anymore if you spend X amount of dollars there.

It is what it is. With the raffle, it's a level playing field. We all have a chance to win. You cannot say that about all the other stores in town. They could just auction it off for however much money we have in in wallets or hoard it in the back room and ask ungodly sums of money for. (cough cough BIN q) Or you may have been a regular at a store since before I was 21 and you have it on lock down and there's no chance of cracking into that exclusive list. At least we all get free bourbon and beer that night and get to hang out with each other. Plus 1 in 300 odds is better than some.

Sir I've been called many things in my life but liberal is not one of them.

Second, I pretty much give Calandros 95% of my business for bourbon and groceries. A loyalty program would be amazing for me but I'm not bent out of shape about it.

I'm entitled to my own opinion on the matter and vicious name calling will not add to your cause.

Yea this one was probably the worst thing I have had in some time. But I can not stop drinking the Lagavulin I have. I am looking forward to trying that Taliskers 18.

I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times in this thread.

EHT Single Barrel = $60
Blanton's = $50
EHT Small Batch = $40
Eagle Rare 10 = $30

Can't go wrong with any of those and you can actually find any of those bottles in stores on the shelf today.

now, now I did manage a saz and a eagle last year also. Look honest truth is I don't really care. Calandros can do whatever, I just made a suggestion. And then there was another suggestion right after mine. I have already mentally prepared myself to pay secondary for bottles this year.

Good grief, you took that as vicious name calling? I guess I should have used some simile faced things to indicated the light heartedness of that comment.
