The official SMS first annual bourbon bracket has concluded. I will be providing the results over the next few days/week.
Let me remind everyone of the rules:
Each selection had to be bourbon <$100 aftermarket
Each selection was given a number ahead of the bracket. All I was given by Mrs. SMS was the 2 numbers that were competing. I didn't receive the names until the end.
Games were played head-to-head with the scoring below.
Taste: The intensity of the taste. 40 pts possible
Finish: The quality of the finish. 30 pts possible
Complexity: How complex was the flavor: 20 pts possible
Nose: Different aromas. 10 pts possible.
North Bracket Round 2:
Yes all... LA1 made it to round 2. Doesn't it look proud standing tall with its other competitors.
Yellowstone - 61
Old Scout 7 - 70
Old Scout 10 - 60
Bowman Brothers - 68
This was a huge upset in my eyes.
John J. Bowman - 73
LA 1 - 29
LA 1s unlikely run came to a very abrupt end.
Savannah - 66
Rowans Creeks - 56
Those Bowman guys make some seriously good stuff.

I'm pretty sure the SAOS is long gone from Acquistipaces...they do have a whistle Pig barrel though

I find the old scouts take a huge step up when you get to the single barrel and store picks

Do they still have any Elijah Craig barrel picks? Or Blanton's barrel picks?

EC12 has been gone for a while. I know they were getting a Blanton's but I'm not sure if it's in yet.

I was in Acquistipaces on Tuesday (6/28).
They had some Russell Reserve barrel pics and some Whistle Pig barrel pics and a Crown barrel pic. Maybe a few others.
Overall selection was pretty poor IMO.
They had Michters Rye Barrel proof but wanted like $85 for it.
There scotch selection was meh.
If anyone was planning a road trip just to go there, I would suggest against it for now.
With that said, they had a SAOS barrel pick that was 11 years. If any of you that know me do decide to go, I am good for 1 X 11 year SAOS.

They are in the process of rearranging a lot of stuff in preparation for the opening of their second location in Mandeville.
I don't think we've met face to face but I'd be happy to drop off that bottle if you are going to be around BR tomorrow morning.
Email me if you're interested. sisyphusot@gmail.com
