I am drinking as fast as I can..

Best I can do is 2 games per night. Mrs. SMS is pretty heavy handed with her pours.

Looking everywhere for WhistlePig Boss Hog. I know it is super hard to find. Anybody know how best to get your hands on a bottle......if possible? I can't find it anywhere on the internet. Had some at a restaurant this weekend and loved it.

I had some Lag 16 last night (you know... to remind my palate what good whiskey tastes like after all the bourbon I have been choking down recently) and Mrs. SMS wouldn't even let me sit on the same sofa with her. She was like "What the hell is that. It smells awful.". Realize that she has sat next to me drinking just about every whiskey there is. This is the first time she has ever banished me to the recliner.

Interesting. My girlfriend says she likes the smell when I break out an Islay. She might be completely insane though (as opposed to partly insane like other women). The jury is still out.

I haven't seen a Boss Hog on the shelves since 2014.

Are you looking for the 12 year or the 13 year?

13 is what I'm looking for. That's what I drank Saturday night. Would take the 12 if I could find it. I see some online, but it is all in NY and they won't ship to other states.

I might be able to get it for you but it would be very expensive. Like $400 expensive. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer. $400 would be last resort price. Would be willing to pay $300 or less. Online sites are selling for $250, but I can't get the shipping outside of New York. My best bet might be shipping to my friend in New York and then have him ship it to me. I would much rather do a local deal though to save all the hassle.

Let me know if you get desperate. I don't flip bottles, but I saw one in Washington DC a few weeks ago. I don't even know if it is still there.

SMS JR lives in Washington and if you are interested I can have him see if the bottle is still there.

I would sell it to you for cost + shipping but I don't remember what the cost was exactly.

Thanks. I certainly don't want you, or SMS Jr., to go out of your way. If he finds himself near the store, I would be interested in the cost. Once again, only if it doesn't require much effort.....and I would want to pay you some kind of premium for your help. Thanks again.

Send me an email at sisyphusot@gmail.com, I think I may have found one that will ship to you. It seems to go all the way through for me.

Someone told me to add one drop of water to every finger of bourbon in order to "open up the nose."

Any truth to this? I usually just drink it straight and can't see how a drop of water will change much.

It's true.

It breaks the surface tension even if it's just one drop. I suggest using room temp water, it has better results in my opinion. Most whiskeys over 110 proof are helped by a few drops of water. (Most, not all)

Booker Noe and most of the old timers added water to their bourbon and who am I to argue with those guys?

However, I'm of the belief that the best way to drink it is however you like it.

This is a simple question with a complicated answer. I will do my best.

I will express my opinion here and I am sure I will be mocked by others.

First off, there is no "right way" to enjoy whiskey. Drink it, smell it, bath in it the way you like it. If anyone tries to tell you there is a "correct way" they don't know what they are talking about. I personally take mine with 1 ice cube from my fridge when I drink at home and neat when I drink at a bar. I like my whiskey cold but not "on the rocks". I think too much ice dilutes the flavor too much.

Also remember that if you aren't drinking a barrel strength whiskey (which you most likely are not) it already has water in it. So adding water to it seems a bit silly.

To directly answer your question, I have tried the drop of water and didn't notice any appreciable difference in the nose or the flavor. As is the case with almost everything whiskey related, people I respect will disagree with me. That is what makes whiskey great. Different people have different opinions and they can both be right. The only correct answer is what works best for you.

I agree 100%

I generally put a cube in my BP stuff...depending what it is I use the crushed ice feature and put some of a cube.

I heard that NolaGT likes to add coke to his finest whiskey to enhance the flavor. Is that true?
