Which is a good moderately priced liquor to spike my store bought eggnog?

Dark Rum or Cognac right? Or do you recommend a Brandy?
Also, any extra additions besides a little nutmeg on top?
I'll be spending Christmas alone in lockdown, so I'm not trying to impress anyone.

I prefer bourbon to other spirits. I use Makers for my eggnog, because the wheated bourbons have a nice sweetness that pairs well with it. A good rye pairs well too, because rye is heavy on the holiday spice flavor profile already. Dark rum is my third choice (Cruzan black strap rum for this)

I think dark rum pairs best with it. Toss in a little bit of fireball just for the cinnamon flavor or some peppermint schnapps

My go to for egg nog or bourbon and coke is Ezra Brooks.
I wouldn't use anything better than a Jim Beam for just a mixed drink.
