People don’t chase bourbon for the taste. It’s a status thing. The reason there is a 400 page thread about what you’re drinking. Embrace it.

Johnny drum is good at 25. Plain old Buffalo trace is great, Elijah Craig if you like the wood. Willett 4yr if you like the spicy ryes, do a little research and find a MGP distilled rye. They are all good.

Forget what anybody tells you if they recommend woodford for anything other than a drain pour.

Blanton’s is a good bourbon but it is incredibly hard to find and when you do find it you will have to overpay.

$150 is probably the range most stores will ask for it. And it will be that much or more in secondary markets.

That said, it isn’t a 100-150$ bourbon. Hell it’s relatively low ABV should keep the cost lower.

In reality, it probably should not be more than 60$ a bottle.

And I say that as someone who likes it.

Used to buy it for $50 bottle prior to 2010. They’d have half a dozen bottles at Cuban Liquor (or whatnot was back then). I bought it often cause I liked it. It’s not bad. But as the bourbon craze grew and quality improved other brands were better and cheaper.
But I’d jump on a bottle for $60 today in a heartbeat.

You want to develop a relationship with your booze guy, butcher, and cigar merchant. Hell don't neglect the produce guy either. Don't be a dick, ask questions and doors will open.

It's been my experience that rare and high end alcohol aren't worth the cost. Just because a bottle costs 10x more doesn't mean it's 10x better. I'd rather a $30 Eagle Rare or a $45 Elijah Craig single barrel over a Stagg Jr. Or an old rip van winkle that cost 3x as much retail and 10x secondary.

No. I’d take Old Rip Van Winkle and Stagg Jr all day every day over the other 2 if I could get them at retail. Would not hesitate for a second.

Now since it’s damn near impossible to find them at retail, I’d buy ER or EC before paying 400-1100 bucks for the other 2.

Also, wear are you finding $30 ER these days?

Welcome to the new world of bourbon. Allocated bourbon is increasingly harder to find and will only get worse as the consumer base continues to grow but the bourbon lags behind. It can also get expensive if you like trying different bourbons trying to find something you like. I started with the normal run of three mill bourbon but realized I prefer barrel proofs. A couple of recommendations would be:
Old Forester 1920 (115 proof so might be a little high)
Bakers 7yr
4 Rose's Small Batch Select
Wild Turkey Rarebreed
Eagle Rare (harder and harder to find)
Knob Creek 12
Even my favorite Knob Creek store picks (above 10yrs old) are harder to find now. Was the best deals around.

Just stop man...blantons is hype juice. If you see it on the shelf can get its priced at least double what it should be. Your passing up at least a dozen better bottles on the shelf for way less

flew through miami last week and went into the duty free store, they had probably 15 bottles for $100.

Do you just not like barrel proof bourbon? That would explain why you would prefer Eagle Rare and Elijah Craig over Stagg Jr. I can't say that I feel the same.
