Wife and I went last night. Ordered a half dozen tamales and angry shrimp as appetizers and split a 2 lb porterhouse.

Aside from the tamales and chili, we weren’t that impressed. The steak didn’t seem to be high quality grade and it wasn’t as flavorful as I had hoped it to be. We’ve heard good things about the place so it was a bit of a letdown. Service was awesome though. Has anyone been lately? That was our first time going so I don’t have another experience to compare it to.

We reluctantly went bc it was in BR and it’s a chain. I was pleasantly surprised. I had the filet though. I thought it was a good steak and a great laid back atmosphere. Loud and lively. I’d go again for sure.

I like the place OK but have never taken a female there that cared for it at all. I don’t know if it’s the meat by the pound thing or what. I reserve Does for Guys night out and we sit in the bar and drink too much bourbon while ordering giant steaks.

The steaks are not prime cuts of beef. Most likely choice. And that’s okay by me, given the large size that is served.

I enjoy it for what it is. I’ve always had good service there and quality is not an issue.

My wife likes the tamales and shrimp. I like the steak. It works for us.

To me, unless you’re secure with your significant other, this isn’t a date place. This is a guy’s place unless your woman just really likes large steaks. There are far better date option places in BR.

Well I should have stated that I went with some buddies after playing golf so the wife wasn’t with me. I’m sure she woulda been mesmerized by the size of that meat.

Begged my SO to bring me because I had never been. He had an awful experience with the owner years ago, so he only agreed to go on my dime.

I wanted badly to like it just to prove him wrong. Sadly, didn’t like it at all. Each item could have been done better. Salad just had oil on it. Mac and cheese was plain noodles with cheese baked on top. Steak was basically baked - no sear.

Saddest $130 I ever spent.

Went back once and had tamales. They were good. I would eat that again.

I've only been to the original Doe's....still one of the best steaks I've ever eaten!

The one in Monroe is consistently good when I’ve been.

Not sure why they can’t sell normal sized steaks. But the two pound ribeye with two sides and two salads is a good deal.

Inconsistent. I feel like the first time I ate there, I had one of the best steaks of my life. I've been back once or twice and they weren't nearly as good. I don't know if something on their end changed, or my perception for good steak changed.

This is a solid strategy.

And restaurant week.

I pretty much have the same opinion as you, OP. Got the tamales as well. They were alright. The porterhouse was alright, good enough for it being choice cut. Honestly, the best thing they had were those fried bread rolls that came with the steak. Can't remember what they were called, but I could eat those like popcorn

It's a guys place for sure...not the best steak but I've had much worse.....
If you can't cook a steak at home you need stay out of the kitchen and off the grill...

Monroe’s is great and the OG in Greenville is an institution. Can’t speak for the one in BR.

I’ve had great experiences at the Monroe location. Have taken my wife there and she loved it as well. Never been to BR location.

Drop biscuits... and yeah they are awesome.

I stick with the ribeye at Doe's, find that they get better cuts than the porterhouse.

What does this mean?

I’ve been a couple times in BR and in Little Rock and it’s ok. Not on my regular rotation but no steak place is.

My thoughts as well. It's like eating at a trailer park...but spending like you are at a high end steakhouse (for BR at least). To some degree you go to a steakhouse for the atmosphere as much as the food. I can just grill a steak in my backyard and eat in shorts and a t shirt for FAR less.

Overall, the steaks are ok (not great by any means). But it's not worth a $100+ tab for me

OG is incredible. The atmosphere makes it. Little Rock was the second location, its okay. Fayetteville was the third location and its awesome. The steaks arent prime but the like i said above the atmosphere makes the place. I compare it to rendezvous in memphis. Ribs arent always the best but sitting upstairs at the large bar with a pitcher of Michelob or Amstel and some sausage and cheese...not much better.
