I moved away about 8 years ago and am back visiting this weekend. Recs? Sounds like City Pork is good. Anything new near campus I should check out?

Very underrated and not pricey at all. Nothing else like it in Baton Rouge. On the flip side the atmosphere isn't great, but I've only sat down there once. Damn Melvin, I need to make a run over there soon. Haven't had a pupusa in months.

If you're looking to stuff your face like a fat frick like me, Kaminari at northgate is like $12-15 for all you can eat sushi and hibachi

Don't listen to this man. Go to Sushi Masa where the sushi is 10x better for a few more bucks.

kingbob already mentioned masa, and OP was looking for something closer to campus.

But yeah, Sushi Masa $16 lunch, $25 dinner for at-order all you can eat pretty much all of their menu. But if you're like me you'll just need an I-10 roll, double spicy roll, and LSU roll with at least five orders of smoked salmon sashimi

ETA: make that two orders of double spicy, who am I kidding.

Good list. I would add Beausoleil and The Rum House for food and atmosphere; Olive or Twist, Corporate Draft, Radio Bar and The Bulldog for drinks. Shoot, they have good food at Olive or Twist.

OP hasn't been here in 8 years and y'all are recommending an AYCE Sushi Buffet? Man this board is slipping!

I'm just saying sushi masa > Kaminari

If we're talking about my favorite new places then its:

City Pork
Curbside
Merchant
Lit pizza
Rum House
Southfin

ETA: Red Zeppelin if that's older than 8 years
Burgersmith
Fat Cow

Off the top of my head

There's not much more to contribute after kingbob

Except Pluckers maybe, that's a weekly spot for me and some friends for trivia.

I'm personally not a big fan of Burgersmith. Feel like they've slipped in quality over the last couple of years.

I've heard Umami near campus is very good, but haven't made it there yet

Go to The Bullfish Bar+Kitchen. I want an honest review before they go out of business. They are overdue by my calculations.

My husband and I were in BR last week for one of my niece's graduation from LSU. We went to Bullfish twice for their boiled crawfish and chargrilled oysters. Nice ale paddles and a solid selection of bourbons. The barkeep is a great guy and knows how to make a Sazerac. Service was great and parking can't get any easier.

They have 3 lbs of excellent crawdads for $14 everyday when in season plus all you can eat on Tuesdays for $27.

The chargrilled oysters topped with parm and butter are awesome for $19.95 but on Wednesday's they're half price including raw on the half shell!!

Carey LeGrange, the owner, brought us samples of his turtle soup with a shot of sherry while we feasted on dads and the oysters.

We can't wait to go back when we return for the football game with Auburn.

Carey and Kay work very hard and need local support. Their location shouldn't figure in at all considering how close they are to LSU and 70808 in general.
