I had a Newcastle the other day for the first time in years and I feel like the brown ale is a very underrated style of beer?

What is a good one?

Locally, Nola makes a good one. Founders Sumatra Brown Ale is delicious. All I got.

Brown ales and porters are hard to find. Which is odd to me because they are the easiest to make.

Bingo. Or now they've released Underground Mountain Brown which is a BBA version of it and is fantastic. Those two are both in the top 3 rated brown ales on beer advocate (Underground is #1)

Boddingtons .. but that's more of an EsB....brown ales are just boring so most Craft breweries don't mess with them.....maybe consider becoming more beerstute.

Samuel Smith's and Bells.

Rogue hazelnut brown used to be good, but is terrible now.

Newcastle used to be good IF it was fresh (loved those 5 liter draught kegs), but the American product was recently changed up when Lagunitas took over production and changed the recipe.

It used to be a sweet malty beer, but now it is a slightly hoppy beer that hopheads will not find satisfying and that will simultaneously disappoint those who liked the sweet profile of the original.

They did change from a clear to a dark bottle, which was needed to prevent light making it skunky.

Lagunitas Now Brews Newcastle Brown Ale — How’s it Taste?

Moose Drool is good, but I have to get it from a relative in OK when they visit. Not sold in the Shreveport market.

Bell's Best Brown Ale is another good one. Seasonal. Just hit stores for the fall.

Creature Of Habit is a American Brown Ale brewed by Great Raft that has coffee in it. Seasonal. Just hit local stores this week. One of my favorites.

Ales are garbage.

Go to the dark side.

Dark lagers
Schwarzbier
Russian imperial stout
Bock
Double bock

Enjoy this one and glad they sell it up here in Kentucky now.

I second Bell’s and Samuel Smith.

Interested as well.

I like malty British browns but never see any.

Cane River Brewing here in Natchitoches makes a pretty good Brown Ale that they just started canning.
