Since this is a Louisiana message board and this restaurant is located right outside New Orleans I figured a lot of people have eaten here. For me, we stop by after Saints game (only way to do it). The only good catfish restaurant near me got written up for lack of cleanliness. I don’t mind eating a bunch of cheap fried food. I’ll turn down nice restaurants for grub you find at Middendorf's. 8/10

They are known for their thin fried catfish which is overrated imo, their thick fried catfish is just normal sized pieces. I used to eat there twice a month or so. Some dishes are better than others, I’ll give it a 7/10

Their Sauce Piquant is pretty good

Hate they no longer have the oyster stew. 7/10.

It’s nostalgic with some good food items.

definitely overrated by the bluehairs

I like it, and I'll eat it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. When it comes to catfish, my go-to is Spahrs.

I'd rate it 5.5/10

Middendorf’s is a fry shack. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of fry shacks in Louisiana. It’s got a great location, but the product is on par with all of the other fry shacks, and not as good as probably half of them.

It’s just bland fried seafood. Way overrated. Not sure why so many are infatuated with it. 5/10.

This is a great post.

The food is good, not great but Middendorf's is all about the location. It's a landmark for a lot of people.

Not as good as back in the day
Plus ownership is different since then
It's been hit or miss the times we've gone recently

Another fried seafood restaurant that's not as good as it used to be for the last 60 years. Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.(YB).

Oh, and it's overrated by the thousands of customers it serves every year, go figure. I have yet to see a restaurant that has been open for decades not get the same reviews on TD. If it's old and popular it's overrated and not as good as it used to be.

Went here for lunch on Sunday for the first time in about 15 years. It's good, but just bland. Got the Middendorf's Special (thin fried catfish, hush puppies (weren't good), and french fries. 6/10.

Agreed. Solid 7/10. We typically make boat rides in the summer time for lunch.

I don’t eat as much fried seafood as I used to. If I am ranking this on a scale of fried seafood restaurants I would rank it way up there. 8.5 out of 10.

7/10 for me. I do my best to avoid it during weekends to avoid any potential heavy crowds so it's usually right to a table for the wife and I when we do stop there for something to eat in that part of the world.

I generally stick with the thin fried catfish dinner but have tried a few other things on the menu over the years and the wife tries different things more than I do and we've never had an issue.

It's not fine dining, but it is good for what it is.

Now, if in the Slidell area visiting our sister-in-law, we will often eat at Phil's Marina Cafe and I would rate that higher than Middendorf's in a hearbeat.
