These days I would probably be arrested for child abuse.
Duct tape and valium? When my daughter was a toddler we could take her anywhere, my son my 6 before he was eligible for a drive thru. Same parents, some kids are just 'lively'.
My peeve is an inordinate delay for the check. I can't figure that out, the waiter knows you are about to make your tip decision, why does he screw it up at the end?

I took him out and laid down the law in stern terms.
Example: even at three years old my children understood "If you can't behave and we have to leave this restaurant you will go home and have to go to bed early with no toys and no tv". Spankings were not necessary.

At mad.. Couldn't remember your whole tag... I understand completely about diabetes.. Apparently since mt my mom was type 1 and dad type 2i have symptoms of both... So eating out is like playing a game of chess...no hijack.. Continue thread

yes sorry about the hijack everyone. Just understand a kindred spirit.
another pet peeve: When I am sitting at the table for a long time with an empty glass whether alcohol or otherwise. And if it is alcohol you are missing out on tips by not increasing the bill.

I was being sarcastic. I'm having an 06 Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy right now which is screw top with a shot of nitrogen on top. It's huge and good and still young and I am grilling a London broil with mashed potatoes and asparagus (because the other thread) and it goes perfect with it.
I don't have any pet peeves. I enjoy dining out and just roll with it. It has it's glitches from time to time but what the hell. Life's not always peachy. Slow waiter? Snap your fingers. Dumb waiter? Take solace in knowing you are at least smarter than someone. Loud kids? Order a double.

With you except on cleanliness.

While I certainly want it clean I'm not a germaphobe. I've eaten in some dumps and been in enough restaurant kitchens of all types of restaurants to realize that's just not always going to be the case. Some of the best food comes from some highly suspect places. Especially in large older cities.

Me either. Just like things to look like someone cares. And I eat at hole in the walls often. Most alteast have a clean bathroom and while Spartan in decor, the dining area isn't a pig sty.

I haven't had a bad experience in so long, I cannot remember what mine are. Even the kids around me have been pretty nice. That, or now that I have one I don't notice it anymore.

The only thing that really gets me upset is if I think I am being hurried. Of course I like it when my drinks come early and often, but just because your lobby is full is not a reason for me and my party to be rushed. I have hardly taken a bite of salad when my entree hits the table. People rush too much these days. Meals and good company are to be savored.

If I am in a rush, I usually inform the waiter of this when I order, so that they can present the check at their earliest convenience.
On the other hand, If I want a leisurely meal, I let them know that as well, so that they can spread the courses out.
As good as a server is, they are not mind readers, so throw them a bone and help them out. You'll benefit, by having a better dining experience.

I agree . . . BUT . . . you just reminded me of a peeve of mine. It pisses me off when a place clearly is busy, people are waiting for a table and a table that has finished its meal, coffee, whatever, is just sitting there shooting the shite. Completely oblivious or not giving a shite. That's nothing more lack of courtesy, in my opinion and it puts the restaurant in a bad spot. Plus it's fricking over the server if you think about it.

My pet peeve is overfilled salt and pepper shakers, especially pepper.
You use pepper out of a shaker? Ask for fresh cracked...if they don't have that...don't eat there.

Don't pick up someone's plate when everyone at the table hasn't finished the meal.
This is odd...if I am done eating before everyone else, I want the server to pre-bus. I don't want to be sitting around with an empty plate sitting in front of me.
I have to disagree with you on this one. Lack of pre-bussing is a sign of bad service.

My biggest pet-peeve is when a server comes up to me and says, "I just got cut, do you want me to transfer you to X...or do you want to pay out."
I always say transfer me...and I leave X an unforgettable tip.
Now before anyone says anything...I don't go to a restaurant at shift change and do this...if it is shift change I will cash out with the server because I know its time for her to go. I am talking about during the shift...and I am not talking about when I camp out.
I am talking about when I am about to cash out...and the server is just trying to leave when the appropriate thing to do is transfer it over without even asking.

When they drop the bill off and run away....I always have my card ready and they run off and disappear when I just want to gtfo. Is it that hard to drop the bill and take it in one turn. I don't need to look at the bill for ten minutes to see if it's right.
You have no idea how mad some people get if you hang around and wait for their card. Unless you have it in your hand and say "Just take it", a server will walk off to give you privacy.

Exactly. If I am in a hurry, I will have my card out and tell the server I am ready to pay-after a quick glance at the bill.
