Dear Friends,
One of the worst feelings I feel frequently is being alone. I find this feeling occurring more and more as I age. I awoke this morning to a cold house and a note by my door from Mother. She wrote:
It was like a punch to the gut. I hate being alone, especially when it is cold. A part of me wants to drive over to see the family, but I fear I was left out for reason. It would be impolite of me to intrude as an uninvited guest, even if I am family.
Some scientist once wrote that 75% of our eating is triggered by emotions, not actual hunger. I know that when I get sad, I will eat quite a bit, and right now I am a bit sad. I went to Popeyes this evening to assuage my forlorn mood.
People are quick to criticize Popeyes as a place that does not have good service. They must go to the wrong Popeyes. As is my norm, I entered Popeyes and was out with a box of chicken in my hand in under five minutes. Perhaps too many people rely on the drive-thru. Jed was the cashier tonight and he was exceedingly pleasant. It is disappointing places like Popeyes do not include a tip section for credit card payments. No matter, I gave him a clean twenty, to which he responded like I had done him a great favor.
"Jed, your cheerfulness, politeness, industry, and smile are priceless. God has surely blessed you. Please never lose hope."
I hope he did not think of my words as mere platitudes. People like Jed make this world wonderful. I am writing a long letter to Popeyes corporate celebrating this Popeyes and this visit. They deserve it. If you have the opportunity to praise a fast food worker, do so soon.
Tonight, my Popeyes app had a coupon for a "two can dine for 8.99." I was yearning to have a companion, but since I cannot, might as well eat for two. The box comes with five pieces of chicken. I asked Jed if he could include two spicy breasts and he did. He also put in a wing (gross), a drumstick, and a thigh. It also came with two biscuits, which were more moist than normal. My two sides, hand selected, were the red beans and the mashed potatoes, as any native New Orleanian would order.
The meal has been smashing to the taste buds, but the heavy cloud of loneliness hangs heavy overhead. I may later go to Dominos.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

"Dear TulaneLSU,
The family is meeting east of Destin this weekend. You were asleep and I did not want to wake you. Please find a cookie cake and several pounds of jumbo lump in the fridge. Also the keys to my SUV are on the foyer's Printz sideboard. Please treat yourself to a meal or two at Impastato's this weekend.
Season's blessings,
Mother

I went Rouse's to get groceries for the weekend. I picked up one of their $5.00 shrimp plates. It had 10 shrimp (some in pieces) fries and two hushpuppies. For $5 bucks I couldn't complain about the portion but it wasn't the worst fried food I have ever had.

TulaneLSU,
Instead of looking at this weekend as a lonely experience, think of it as a weekend of individuality. Lord knows I need one.

Alexander’s does a good job too with fried shrimp.
I stopped in Oak Point Grocery in Central on the way to the farm and this is my $6.00 catfish for dinner.
And no one on God’s green earth would ever put a set of SUV keys on a Printz sideboard. The OP’s mother misspelled IKEA.

Came home on what I hope is the last hard freeze of the year. Felt like I owed my wife a hearty, comfort meal. Stewed down some chicken thighs, made a pot of rice, threw a can of corn in a pot and had some leftover slaw. Got an hour in on the treadmill while doing this. :)

Sauteed lemon pepper Sole
We are in San Antonio so we didn't have power for 5 days (still don't have water) and our ability to cook was limited.
Power is back so I threw together a side dish with stuff I probably wouldn't be able to use tomorrow:
Red, yellow and purple baby potatoes
Onion
Tomato
Sour cream
Cottage cheese
Farmstyle thick cut Italian blend shredded cheese
Minced garlic
Butter
Salt
Pepper
Paprika
Tony's
Baked it until the potatoes were tender and it wasn't half bad.

Marinated some shrimp all day in this dressing and turned it into angel hair pasta with garlic, shallot, herbs, tomatoes, butter, and fresh grated parm

Weirdo,
I chose not to consume dinner tonight. A business lunch meeting found me at Keith Young's Steakhouse located on Hwy 21 in Madisonville, LA. This setting would be a Top 3 landmarks of Historic Madisonville, should a list be made by one that had no qualms of crossing a 23.2 mile bridge.
Appetizers consisted of (3) orders of scallops served in butter sauce, (1) order of Keith's succulent yet perfectly fried onion rings, (2) spinach and artichoke dip a, and (3) orders of Keith's amazing crab cakes.
After the appetizers were polished off, the lunch surf n turf was ordered for me, but not by me. This dish included a petite filet cooked medium rare, a lobster tail with a healthy dollop of butter for dipping, and a side of the au gratin potatoes that send orgasmic sensations from one's pallette down to their toe nails.
Once dessert was offered, I realized I had over served myself after 13 bottles of beer and 1 bottle of Cabernet. Therefore, I politely declined the copious amounts of sugar intake and decided to indulge in another bottle of Cab.
By the time I got home to my wife and kids, I was unfit for my own mother's eyes. Mrs4 wasn't thrilled to see me, but I told her it was her lucky day to have me home in one piece after the day I had at work providing for my family.
Give Mother my regards. I hope she enjoys her time at the beach.
Best,

Truly a diamond in the rough. You smack of an elevated Paul Allen or S, however.
Keep on, you're sorely needed here.

You know, I read this post and some things occurred to me.
One. Mother refers to him as TulaneLSU.
Two. TulaneLSU seems to have a habit of eating his feelings. So my guess is he's a phaddie.
Three. He would've enjoyed his meal more had he gone to Brothers or even KFC. Both are better than that dry, jerky shite you find at Popeye's.
Happy Easter TulaneLSU. And please forward our regards to Tom Fitzmorris.
