They have better than average burgers.

They do and good tuna salad. It’s not a bad place to watch a couple games and have a few cocktails and good sports food. We go to the original from time to time for a ballgame.

Ruth’s Chris.

Which is a very good chain for cities that don’t have good steakhouses.

But the board is overly enamored of it.

I like Walkons just fine.

You been to Cajun Seafood on Rocky Ridge in Vestavia for the LSU watch parties?

There was another thread about this in the Food Board somewhere. I don’t live far from there and we need a good sports bar. I have Billy’s and On Tap close to me, but the food at On Tap is marginal and the beer selection at Billy’s is very limited. Looking forward to trying Walkons.

Food is good. Beer is overpriced and the tap list sucks unless you like the national mainstays.

The food at Walk-On’s has gotten a lot better over the years. The guys who started the place admit at first, the food wasn’t that hot. They have solid burgers and the Boom Boom Shrimp are good.

Surprisingly, I've never had anything that was bad on the menu. It ain't cheap, but it sure ain't bad.

My typical favs are, from apps down, are... cheeseburger sliders, boom shrimp, stuffed burger, Mardi Gras mahi, pepper jelly shrimp salad (or whatever it's called).

The key might be to pay attention to the daily specials, (drinks and food), and stick to those.

I honestly have sat and tried to figure out why its so popular, yet so not duplicated. Good food for family, bar atmosphere for adults. Girls in short skirts. That's really all we want. Another beer please.

Downside? Noisy as hell. Music, tv's, nothing to absorb the sounds therefore you get to hear every sound 2 or 3 times, silly basketball game like a carnival.

Nothings perfect.

I've gone three times and three times it has been mediocre. If you think Chilis or Applebees is "good eating'" then you will probably enjoy it.

It’s a very good sports bar that this website hates for no apparent reason.
No reason? It's fricking mediocre, and that's being polite.

The only good thing about Walk Ons is you know going in you'll be disappointed by it. I often get drug into going to the Gonzales location and.. it's just meh.

I mean, it’s not a bad place to get a beer and hang out, but otherwise I’d temper expectations

I'll never understand the hate Walkons gets. For a sports bar the food is above average at the least. Its a great place to watch a game. And the original is a great party for big football and baseball games.

This is not even mentioning that it was started by hometown guys that grew it from one location to be one of the most successful sportsbar chains in the entire country

It's called advertising, mr pissy.

Def not pissy. It was good for Brandon when he brought in some really heavy $$$ guys to bring their business to where they are now.

To be fair, the original Walk On’s had pretty crappy food for their first several years. Now that they expanded, it’s pretty good for a chain sports bar.

I really think alot of the haters haven't been in the last 10+ years

ETA:
And I don't really blame them for thinking they were starting a bar that also serves food then hearing the criticism and adjusting their approach

I just laugh when they talk about being the worlds best sports bar
I know that not many here in the South are into hockey, but you cannot possibly be the best sports bar in the nation without the NHL tv package. Heck, even TJ Ribs has it.
