Yep that's the boat I'm in. I almost always know what I'm getting myself into when I eat out, and a few dollars here and there isn't going to discourage me from ordering something.

I am far from a lard arse. If you think 4 shrimp, two catfish strips, a small salad, and half a potato is a lot of food then you eat like a fat bitch that just underwent gastric band surgery. I’m not saying it wasn’t a satisfying meal portion wise. I just made the comment that the portion sizes are smaller than what I remember. Lol you would swear every goddamn poster here is rich and physically in the best shape of their life. I say $17 in my opinion is a lot for what I got and suddenly I’m perceived as being poor lol. Unreal

Now that’s how you don’t back down.

For real, though, I feel your pain, because food is way more expensive now than not that long ago, or seems that way, at least, but I doubt they are making a large margin at $17.

All of their workers are paying, what $7 or $8 for a Whopper meal these days? It’s a stupid world out there. Cook at home as much as possible is what we do.

Comparing lunch and dinner is irrelevant if I'm referring to quality of food for the price. My point is, I can get a chef prepared meal that is not a small portion for a dollar more than something low quality and fried by a line cook.

That was an order for one person? If they ate the portion size of a normal person they wouldn't have to pay so much.

I have no clue, I am just going by what I was told.

It has been a couple years since I have gone to Mike Anderson's. If I recall, I had no complaints, but if you are looking to get your money's worth from the food and don't really care about the environment (which is really what you buy when you go to a restaurant), there are places that you can get the same for cheaper.

You're not comparing apples to apples, in terms of price. Prices for menu items are almost always cheaper at lunch.

I get that you can go have a higher quality meal for about the same price, but they're not serving that meal at dinner.

Going out to dinner at any half decent restaurant, $15-20 for an entree is a reasonable price. For lunch at the same place, that's pretty pricey.

I have a crazy idea. If you think $17 is too much for fried catfish, don't order it. I wouldn't order that dish purely because I agree that it's too much for that dish.

I’m not going to say I’m a restaurant connoisseur, but taking into account the quality and quantity of food I got, it definitely wasn’t worth $17. I know lunch and dinner portions vary, so I honestly shudder to think what the lunch portion size of what I got looks like. Two shrimp, 1 catfish strip, and a side ? I don’t think spending $17 on dinner is unreasonable, but honestly when you factor in cost, quality, and labor, frying fish and shrimp doesn’t require much culinary skill or preparation. This is why I would rather spend $5-$10 more dollars and go to a place like J Alexander’s, bonefish, Mulate’s, etc.. At least you’re getting a higher quality meal that requires some prep time and skill to make, so the price is justified.

That’s a more than fair opinion. I definitely understand what you’re saying. I’ve eaten places and thought “man for just a bit more I could have had a better meal.”

And maybe I just really miss fried catfish, so that’s why I’m fine paying $17 for it.

Again, when it comes to food prices I might be a little jaded.

I haven’t been recently but years ago the Trout Joulie Rouge with stuffed potato and coleslaw was a really good meal.
I heard recently that Mike is having some health problems so maybe lack of oversight has caused the restaurant to go down.

Mike Anderson's is as good as Ralph and Kackoo's. If you go knowing what to expect, you wont be disappointed. Much like getting a burger at Red Robin or pizza at D'angelo's, just go knowing you will leave without an orgasm. If you go to Mike's expecting legendary seafood and a place on par with the upper eschelon of BR restaurants, prepare for extreme disappointment.
