Sorry for the long post, but this has been eating at me all day, and I want y’alls opinion of if was an idiot or was I justified.
On family vacation in Seaside, my 3 yr old says he wants a burger. My wife and I take him to this place called Pickles.

We wait in line for 25 min just to order a kids burger. For $11 you get burger, drink, and smiley face frozen fries. This place has regular fries, so I wondered to myself why not just put kids portion with kids meal. We get to window and this is my convo:

Me: Kids burger, can we sub “smiley” fries for regular fries.
Cashier: We don’t do that. If you want regular, then you have to order a side.
Me: Can I sub fries for your “world famous pickles?”
Cashier: We don’t do that, if you want pickles you have to pay for a side. ($3.99)
Me: No fries. For my drink, I’d like a bottle water
Cashier: you have to pay for a bottle water. $4.
Me: I get a drink with the kids meal?!
Cashier: you get fountain drink.
She Hand me a cup of water(no ice).
Me: but I paid for a drink.
Cashier: we have been open longer than you have been alive. We serve 700 customer a day with no problem. (With an attitude)
Me: We seem to be in a F..KIN PICKLE then. I’d like my money back.
Cashier: ( throws money back at me) you have to leave the premises

My wife who was waiting with my son by a table, then comes over to see whats going on and they tell her she has to control me.

I never act like this, but cashier really pissed me off with her attitude

Was I wrong?

Waiting in line 30 minutes to please your 3 year old was where you went wrong.

Im sure you are exaggerating how she acted for us to tell you she was the a-hole, but you sound difficult. The cashiers dont make the rules and you were trying your hardest to bend them to save a few bucks.

I think I under exaggerated her attitude. I’ll admit she didn’t throw it back, it was more of a flick on the counter. The cashier seemed to be a manager, as she was the one who got my money back out of the register.
I also found out through yelp they make you pay for toppings on a regular burger. If that’s their rules, it seems to be very unusual.

So you wanted regular fries, a bottled water, and pickles, but ordered something completely different and wondered why there was an issue. Next time, simply order a bottled water, regular fries and pickles. Also, probably steer clear of places that want $11 for a kids portion. I wouldn't say you were wrong, you're just a couple of pickles short of a barrel.

No, as I stated in OP, I just wanted a kids burger. It came with fries and a drink.
I didn’t want frozen fries, especially when they have regular fries. But I was fine paying and not getting fries. What set me off was the water.

Well now it sounds like you are over exaggerating the initial exaggeration that I feel as though you over exaggerated from the start.

If you're going to sub, expect to pay. It's the cost of doing business. Caveat emptor!

can we sub

She said No. Move on and live to sub another day. Its vacation, not time for moral grandstanding over $4.00 on a $3K vacation to the beach.

Boom? Allowing yourself to be on the receiving end of a $14/Hr fast food employee insult, Priceless. This story reads better with: "Well today it is 699 customers!"

they tell her she has to control me.

This is a gem. I appreciate your vigor and determination. But fast food substitutions are not a hill to die on. Stop at a bar/restaurant. Get yourself a boat drink. Get your daughter a burger and eat half her fries. $30.

You were wrong for ordering one thing and expecting other things at little to no charge

She was wrong for being a bitch but people get frustrated (both of you)
