The real question is how many are still around in five years?

NOLA should be able to support a lot more breweries. They may not all expand quick or distribute outside of NOLA, but I think eventually most cities will have little "neighborhood" breweries/taprooms like coffee shops

It's already like that in many cities

The owner is very cocky, and not in a good way. I hope he gets an attitude adjustment at some point.

I would think someone who produces a cool looking can like that could have come up with a better name for their brewery. Urban South kinda sounds generic hipsterish.

I'm looking forward to trying the beer, but I agree completely, the name absolutely sucks. Same with that Southern Craft out of BR.

The first step would be for the "neighborhood" bars to support the "neighborhood" breweries.Too many of my neighborhood hang outs do shitty job of supporting the local breweries.

there is a contingent of Shreveport bars that are boycotting all the local breweries because they are mad about the taprooms "stealing" their business

its fricking absurd

IMO distribution controls too many of the taps in NOLA.

So ironic, because it will just push people toward the taprooms. Self fulfilling prophecy.

exactly it makes zero sense

"oh so these people really want local beer and are going to these taprooms, so let's remove all the local beer from our bars so all these people will want to come here instead"

LOLWUT

Ya'll are being harsh. They chose southern craft because it represents who they are, what they believe in, and more importantly where their ingredients come from.

Their red stick rye and pompous pelican are hits already. Currently brewing Mississippi maibock, tigers tripel, and boosie black ipa. Can't wait

Same thing in Lafayette

You're lucky to find anything local besides Canebrake or shitty Abita beers at most bars.

Maybe my palate was out of whack or they had a bad batch, but I thought the Pelican I had at Zapps was awful. I also had the Rye before the event started, and while ok it was nothing special. Black IPA's always intrigue me, so I'm looking forward to trying that one out but I don't have high hopes at this point

The cringe worthy quote about ingredients they believe in is definitely real. It's crazy how a metro population or 800k or so has two breweries, one of which is mediocre at best and the other which seems to be following in their lead of gimmicky names and bad product.
