Been getting a lot of buzz locally since Rodney Scott is featured.
Aaron Franklin was deemed too mainstream to be featured.

He's been on pretty much everything. It would honestly be boring to have him featured. I'm glad they are getting some other stories. I still need to try Snow's.

Looks good overall
Caught the little buzz about Myans created bbq. I'm sure Chefs table is going to play right into that. So tired of the bbq was invented by Africans/Indigenous Americans trope.
Also. Pigs are not native to the Americas (like horses)
Every single population has smoked foods.

In Medieval Europe, when an animal was slaughtered (often pigs) much of the meat was smoked for preservation. Many smallholdings had dedicated smoke houses where the meat was smoked and stored. The less affluent hung their meat high up on the edges or their hearth or fireplace at night. Ashes were placed over the embers to extinguish any flames which produced an ideal Smoky environment in which to preserve their fish or game.

Wait - I thought Franklin invented BBQ??

Looks interesting. I think it’s over-produced, but I reckon that’s the world we live in. This is no knock against Mr. Scott, but I’ve known many people just like him. Kudos to him though, he has talent and a niche, and the timing is right.
To me, barbecue has always been a simple, everyman’s food. Not to say that every man can do it well.
You could do whole series on various regions, much less barbecue in general. I’m not complaining, although it sounds like I am. There’s just lots of food, people, and places to cover.

Well said. Agree completely.

It's a pretty unique style of cooking. It begins with wood smoke, but where does it end? How many other types of cooking also fall into the category of recreation?
It really is taking off worldwide. I see more and more people posting from Australia, Scandinavia, Japan, etc... on online bbq sites and social media.

Tootsie is a living legend, and snows is a great bbq experience

Is it wrong of me to say that I am actually glad Franklin isn't on the show?

No not at all. I think he and his food have already been well documented. He probably would have been a good host or narrator.

Rodney Scott is on a bunch of these shows too. It’s not like he’s not well covered either

There's a great Ugly Delicious episode on barbecue and what it actually entails across different cultures.
Also, if y'all haven't watched Taco Chronicles on Netflix, it's fantastic.

Completely agree. I think Ms Tootsie and Snows have even become a more widely known name in the past few years to those outside of Texas. Texas BBQ and that style has become very popular all across the south east and even the country.
Whole hog is just more of a niche. You can find someone in NYC or the Northwest cooking "Texas Style Brisket", however you won't find anyone in those places cooking "Eastern Carolinas Whole Hog".
Almost always if they are featuring Whole Hog on a TV program or media article it's going to be Rodney Scott or Sam Jones.

Side note, if you’re into bbq and are on Instagram you should follow Robert Jacob Lerma. He’s a Texas based photographer and has some amazing bbq content

Agree. BBQ was never created or invented, it has always just evolved. Hell, if you want to get real specific, the entire development of the brain and consequently the human race happened because someone once left an animal carcass next to a fire.
