WAITR says they're closed. Tried calling, no answer.

Damn shame. Was pricey but very good, had things you could not get elsewhere in B.R.

I wonder if they just aren’t taking a short holiday week off. A lot of restaurants do that

No way... can't be. I still get offers sent to me and received one late last week.

Facebook page says they're closed for "light renovations".

I talked to them a few days ago - maybe on the weekend. Can’t remember the exact day. They were anticipating another week or so, so should be open very soon. Mid-July at the latest I’d guess.

My wife would not be happy if both Omi and Umami closed.

Hung out with an employee today. They said Friday was the goal but probably a couple days after that. Theyre just making some improvements.

The owners are a bunch of guys with passion for the food. The guys from geisha and another investor bought umami from cong. They are renovating and will continue. They told me that have hopes of doing omikase more often.

Has gone downhill some after it was sold unfortunately. Drinks aren’t the same and the sushi has been hit/miss. It was well worth the price before, not any more.

Will Cong still be there? I loved what he was doing.

Yeah, hate to say it but sadly, it won't be nearly the same quality without Cong.

I thought The same as you but we went a few weeks ago and it was as amazing as ever and the new items were also very good.

Umami is/was my #1 BRrestaurant, but the one thing they got wrong was the bar program. Their wine and cocktail selection is so much better now.

Been a few times since Cong left. I think we’ve only ordered stuff that were on the menu when Cong was still there. Their menu hasn’t changed much but I noticed they brought some stuff over from Geisha.

I do agree. Their bar program is 200% better though

He is moving to Houston. Apparently he got a pretty sweet offer from the current owners.

I like Geisha so my hopes is they will continue the good, elevated quality of food at Umami. More omikase is also exciting.

They better keep their ramen the same.
