Had Tower of Pizza tonight for the first time in a few years. So damn good. Tower Supreme is like perfect melty goodness.
My first venture to this fine pizza establishment was when they were located on Downman Rd. back in the early 80's. My son was just a kid back then and loved watching the guys toss the dough in the air to form the base of the pie.
Tower of Pizza and Artista's on Franklin Ave. located next to the Tiger Show and Sugar Bowl Lanes were the only places at the time to get my money for a great pie. The bowling alley closed up and the Tiger Show was renamed the Grit Show and started showing "Adult" films and it wasn't long before Artista's closed up as that whole area became sketchy and dried up commercially.
My wife came home with a Tower of Pizza Supreme a few nights ago and it was a great pie and a big jump in quality from places like Dominoe's, Papa John's and the other "assembly line" places out there. It was a nice treat for sure.

Had Tower of Pizza tonight. It was really good. Had to wait a while but it was worth it.
One lady outside said they tried to go to Forbidden, it was too busy. She said iL Supremo was out of pizza!!!

I went to Tower of Pizza earlier in the week. Got stuck outside in a 30 plus minute wait in the cold. A couple of old regulars walked up and were not happy about the wait, and went the other way. One lady snickered - “that pizza review guy is going to ruin our place.”
Once we got inside, it took about another 40 minutes plus for our pizza to come out. The waitress kept apologizing and just said - “it’s been that kind of night.” I knew they were having trouble keeping up with the Dems d following the Portnoy review. During our wait, I didn’t see many pizzas hitting the tables inside. But instead it was one pizza “to go” after another heading out the door.
Like Dave, I enjoyed the old school atmosphere. Reminded me of Fleur de Lis in Bayon Rouge with the old school vibe. For the pizza, it was good. But I’m not sure I would go out of my way for it, or wait like we did for it.

Asked the lady when we went this week and she said always busy but it’s been much busier since the Barstool review. Plus she said one of their ovens was acting up too.

It's great for these local businesses. Gio's closed down one day last week to restock. Make the money while its hot.

Friend,
Having had both St Pizza and Il Supremo five times each since this post, St Pizza may have passed Il Supremo for top spot in the Metro. I will go to both another five times to determine who is the current number one.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Thank you, TulaneLSU.
All the folks complaining in this thread remind me of students in high school complaining about the low quality of the school newspaper. As if they could do better.

"Again, I do like you TulaneLsu you seem nice, and you’re excited about pizza, but Il Supremo is not the best pizza in Louisiana - that's a fleeting emotional and trendy talking point. Your statement won't age well. Please keep traveling"
Told you so!

Friend,
It is not hyperbole to say that New Orleans has arguably the fastest burgeoning pizza scene in America over the last four years. We will never catch up with the center of the pizza world, the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut corridor, but we are catching up to Miami as the pizza capital of the South. We have quickly surpassed Houston, Nashville, and Atlanta. As a pizza city we are nudging past the grossly overrated Portland and approaching Seattle.
It is quite telling that the Michelin investigators know next to nothing about pizza, having included none of New Orleans’ noteworthy pizzerias in their employer’s travel guide. Pizza Grace of Birmingham and Antica of Atlanta are fine pizzerias, but neither is on level with St. Pizza or Il Supremo. I will be writing letters to their editors tonight.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Take Tower of Pizza out at 3 and put in Pizza Delicious there. And any of your top 5 could be number 1 on any day. Tower of Pizza must be a nostalgia pick for you. Because it definitely doesn't belong at 3.

wife and I inhaled a large tomato pie with mushrooms and pep from st pizza today…it remains the best pizza I’ve had anywhere. I don’t care how much it costs I can’t wait to go again

$35 for a pepperoni pizza at St Pizza. I’m always on the hunt for a good one, but that’s a stretch for pepperoni.

whole pie at the window is 35. Bar pie in the tavern after 5pm is 25. Two people can eat a bar pie and be more than full especially if you get a salad or something. There’s no way two people can kill a full pie unless you’re an NFL lineman
it’s worth it

That works. I’ll give that a try, thanks.

Tower’s Hot and Spicy is sort of the perfect pizza.
Had a real good pie from Nola last night.

Not a pizza buff by any stretch, I eat Papa John's or Red Zeppelin once a month or so but we tried St. Pizza Friday and it was an enlightening experience. From the very first bite it was special. We ordered a whole pep and got 2 slices of other pies to sample while waiting...ended up ordering 3 more slices while waiting. My wife loved the 3 pepper, I tried the Green Pepper and the Margherita (wanted Bianca but they didn't have a house pie while we were waiting)
As a non pizza guru, the closest thing I can describe the crust to was almost a funnel cake texture...had crunch but also was airy. The kitchen being by the front door was cool...I sat and watched 6 people share 50 square feet with an oven and though there were some close calls, the machine ran smoothly. I will comfortably give St. Pizza a 10/10 and can't wait to go back. I do now see that there is a huge gap at the top of the Baton Rouge pizza scene that someone with pizza like this can come in and takeover the city with easily.
