After 19 years, The Melting Pot is closing its doors on Saturday.

The Baton Rouge franchise owners announced the impending closure on Facebook and via emails to customers over the weekend.

The owners say they decided not to renew the franchise agreement with The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc. several years ago and had hoped to sell the location tucked in the Esplanade Mall on Corporate Boulevard.

“However, we have been unable to work out a long-term lease deal with our landlord, which makes it impossible to sell,” the statement says.

The landlord of that development must suck. All that empty space fronting the interstate (and alot in the back facing Corporate) and they didn't want a long term lease for Melting Pot? What are they doing?

And with Sullivan's being sold, I imagine something must be looming for them as well in the near future?

That entire corridor of Corporate at College area is having a slow death.

Not surprised another business is having issues with that property owner.

They could just open that building up to house all of the vagrants, beggars and assorted con artists proliferating in that area.

Well there is a new hotel (Tru?) opening up soon at Citiplace, so perhaps that will help gain tenants at the old On The Border and Pelican House buildings. And Mansuer's is doing fine there, as is Jason's, Albasha and Another Broken Egg. Esplanade has seen better days though.

It pretty much already is. I know when they tore down the building between old fox and click's had a number of homeless people that absolutely destroyed the inside of it.

Melting pot is still the 4th place to close within the year in the area. I am not saying all of the places will shut down, especially the ones you mentioned, but it's definitely having an exodus recently. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sullivan's does move too because of issues with the landlord too.

Actually they want to tear it down and rebuild, but they are stuck with some tenants who have long term leases (not sure which ones) and they can't do it. I almost think the owners are trying to make it look so crappy and hope that the ones leasing it will no longer want to.

That used to be one of the most happening areas of BR. Now it's almost a wasteland.

Firehouse is relatively new there, and Subway has been there for years. Is CLicks still in business? Hooters has been there a long time too. Other than those (and Sullivans), what else is there? I'd be pissed if I were the franchisee of those i just mentioned knowing that the landlord is trying to make the place look shitty so they can bulldoze it. NOt that I wouldn't be against bulldozing it.

This has to be it. That land must be worth a small fortune compared to the lease payments from the remaining tenants. I would wager a new hotel goes there.

Definitely the case.

quote:

It’s a black eye for a partnership that built its reputation on doing quality development. Scott Bankston, who is Hartley’s associate and manages the property, concedes the property has been problematic, and says the highest and best use for the 11-acre site is to demolish and redevelop it. But he says the partners cannot do that because of long-term lease agreements in place.

corporate is dead. I hope future business owners are looking at this and realize that you're only giving yourself about a year.
