The Melting Pot - anyone still eat here?

This was THE fancy place to impress your college girlfriend back in the early 2000s. I haven’t eaten there in well over a decade and don’t even think about it anymore. I saw the New Orleans location just closed. Does the Baton Rouge one still bring in customers? The concept of fondue for dinner doesn’t appeal to me like it did when I was a young adult.

Granted I was biased because my mom thought it was gross and told me that a million times growing up, but I was pretty grossed out the one time I went once I was in college.
Ordered a bunch of steak and they wanted you to boil it. Who boils steak?
Even the cheese course was poor. Round tortilla chips from the bag, some torn bread, apples (?). I feel like you could do fondue with nicer stuff.

I'm a little younger than you apparently, but yes I do remember this being a hot place to go before proms and homecomings when I was in high school in the early 2000s.
Looking back on it, God what a waste of money. It was something like $100 for two people to cook their own mediocre food.

never sounded appealing to me

I went once. Didn’t think the food was worth the price. For what I spent there I could have gotten much better food somewhere else.

a trend like this was bound to tank as people started realizing how fricking dumb it is. They had a hell of a run though... and I'm sure laughed their asses off the whole way.

I never understood the love for that place. Just not my cup of tea, and, as I recall, pretty pricey.

No way in hell...dont you need a turtle neck to go in one of those places? I dont own a turtle neck.
I did go to Crepe Nanou recently and the couple with us ordered that fondue for the table. I was hungry and I'll eat just about anything but the cheese was about as appealing as earwax.

I never knew anyone thought of it as anything more than a goofy novelty.

My kids LOVE it, but they're pretty easily amused. We take them there once a year or so. It's pretty awful, but they enjoy it, so maybe that worth it. I usually just drink and make sure they don't scorch their fingers off or something.
Last time I took them the wife was out of town and I had to get an Uber the 2 miles home. Father of the year.

When we were dating my wife insisted we go there on a date. It was our anniversary so I obliged. Never felt so jipped after spending ~$100. The cheese part was great and the chocolate part was great, but boiling meat myself? WTF. That shite was awful. The only way I can see that place being worth it is to do like cheese and drinks before I real dinner somewhere else.

I worked there in college and never understood why people ate anything beside the cheese and chocolate. Even then, it was ok. I made a bunch of money bough.

how it still manages to keep its door's open to this day is a mystery

The cheese is pretty good.
We never get the chocolate. Kids always just want to go to the frozen yogurt place nearby.

Yeah, it really is sad in hindsight.

I got shrimp and lobster. You boil it in a flavorful broth so it’s better. I wouldn’t get steak there though, way too weird.

That sounds nowhere near like the experience I had at the melting pot here. Granted I’ve only been once, but the cheese and dessert were the best part.

Yelp photos are showing bread pieces, vegetables, and apples. But this was like 10 years ago I went. I distinctly remember the round tortilla chips in addition to that stuff.
Either way, I wouldn’t call that good eatin’
