What a fantastic mini series on the History channel right now. "The Food That Built America" dives into the history of food as we know it today and how it all evolved. How entrepreneurs dreams came true and the struggles (or not) they endured. This is a Foodie's dream series. Check it out:

Really interesting. I’ve seen Episodes 1&2. Recorded 3 last night. Very worthwhile.

Caught a little bit of it last night, specifically the McDonalds and Col Sanders stories.

I’m going to record it when it comes back around. All of the XXXX That Built America is pretty good and what the History Channel should be most about.

I get the McDonalds brothers were not interested in expanding the brand, and they still got a ton of money when you account for inflation, but damn, get some royalties or something.

I mean, 1% would be huge. Becoming an instant millionaire at that time was prolly plenty enough to them tho.

True, sadly, if it isn't reruns of American pickers or some other "let's film these people working and claim it's history made every day, so we don't have to pay for actors or a script", then "history" channel doesn't seem to care.

Very interesting series. Watched three episodes and really enjoyed that. The candy story with Hershey and Mars was really cool. Never knew the backstory with the Col. from Kentucky.

Haven't seen an episode. Probably want see one. Just know the History Channel will re-write history. Keep both eyes open. Enjoy.

I hate what history channel has become, and cannot stand shows like Forged in Fire, Ice Road Truckers, Swamp People, American Pickers, Counting Cars, etc anymore.

I want more documentaries and more live action historical fiction like Vikings, Hatfields & McCoys, and Knightfall

ETA: the Ancient Aliens, conspiracy theories, and UFO shows are my guilty pleasures.

I’ve yet to encounter objective history, so what’s the big deal? Be a discrete consumer.

Not all about fast food.

I really enjoyed the Kelloggs story and the Heinz story

The men behind today's household names were friggin ruthless

Colonel Sanders, per the show, figured out how to fry chicken in 8 minutes over 80 years ago. Yet I constantly read on here that Popeyes has people waiting forever to make a 3-piece spicy box.

Mr Birdseye didn't really have a game plan on selling his frozen food since nobody else had a freezer

Good thing his patents were worth millions

It had me double thinking when freezers were generally in most households. Because I kept on thinking why would this dude do frozen food when almost nobody has one...couldn't be that dumb

Proved me wrong

The Founder is a pretty good movie on how the whole McDs thing kinda went down. There is a lot more to the story than what was on The Food That Built America. Ray Kroc was an intelligent shady fellow with no morals.

Yeah they touched on it as kind of an afterthought, but it’s still kind of mind blowing they didn’t go for like 1 or 2 percent royalties.
