Recently had a blind cheap beer tasting with a group of friends. After tasting each one and discussing its aroma and aftertaste merits, we assigned it a score of 1 through 5. Needless to say, my old college beer preferences were shattered when I learned that PBR is the most disgusting swill on the planet.

The results:

High Life - 4.3
Rolling Rock - 4.2
Coors Light - 3.6
Schlitz - 3.3
Miller Lite - 3.2
Bud Heavy - 3.1
Bud Light - 2.6
PBR - 1.7

I at least felt justified in my intense hatred of Bud Light.

Most of those scores would be what I would give those beers, but not on a 5 point scale.

Yes, a 100 point scale.

The idea behind the eight selected was that they are generally available at bars. I don't frequent the Goldmine enough to have Natty Light be an option at bars.

I would, however, love to extend the tasting to those types of beers so if I'm buying a case and want volume I'll know which option is the least worst.

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe you could justify it in relation to the competition, but a 4.3 out of 5, an 86%, for High Life? I don't think I'm a true maven, but that's absurdly high for that beer.

Scores were determined relative to the eight selected, as if those eight were the only options in the world.

Every time I drink Miller High Life, I'm always surprised at how good it tastes.

Of those, then, I would rank them PBR first, Rolling Rock wayyy last, Coors Light second to last, and the rest tied for third to last.

Of those, I generally drink Coors. I don't care for High Life at all and I've never tried Rolling Rock. Bud Heavy is disgusting.

I really like Bud Light Lime for some reason.

On time I got in my old convertible and drove around San Marcos. I go down an alley and look into this one back yard, and there are 20 Mexican guys drinking Schlitz beer. There is one of those really long, orange extension cords that goes way back into the house and is plugged in somewhere. It comes out into the yard and goes all the way out to a picnic table, where it is plugged into a window-unit air conditioner. And I thought, man, I haven't had a Schlitz beer since elementary school

Bud Light Lime is criminally underrated.
