I had seen $2.95 at some places but saw my first $3 today. Kinda ridiculous...
Thoughts?

Massive profit source at any restaurant. A fountain drink might cost the restaurant 5 cents. Might. Ice tea, probably an even bigger markup.
And as said above, quite wasting money on flavored sugar water.

Stick with water, but I expect a soon trend to be to charge for that as well, and I am okay with paying a buck for a glass of water if it comes down to it

This was not...no fountain drinks (how is that the customer's fault?) so individual bottles. $3 each

Its how restaurants are moving, to get away from the Free Refills customer.

What do you mean, "Free refill customers"?

People who drink multiple soft drinks with meals are just disgusting.

One soft drink a day puts you at a higher risk for diabetes, more than one soft drink a day puts you at a higher risk for stroke.
Let'em drink til their heart's content.
I'll have Perrier.

Diet is terrible for you. Stop drinking syrup sodas. Every soda you drink at a restaurant (barring specialty sodas) come out of a plastic bag of thick sticky syrup that gets mixed with carbonated water.

I either get water or some sort of alcoholic beverage.

Yep. Four years ago I quit drinking diet sodas and all forms of fast food. Lost 26 pounds in 9 months. I drink as much beer and wine as I want and eat whatever I want.

I have a hard time passing up micro-brewed sodas made with all natural ingredients. If that's not an option, I'm with you; Water and/or beer.

The type who write Yelp reviews which say, "I would give this place 4 stars, but they didnt refill my sprite with no ice as fast I like, so 2 stars."

It costs a lot more than 5 cents but yes they do make a profit off of drinks but it's a business. I would guestimate it costs about $.50-$1.00 for the average person's drink assuming 2-3 refills.

I'm halfway to that point (weight and I haven't completely given up fast food). Makes a huge difference.
