Does this ring any bells?

Usually in a square Tupperware or Pyrex dish.

Graham cracker crust, cream cheese(?) layer, jello chocolate pudding layer and then maybe cool whip and crushed pecans?

Served chilled, does this sound like something you've heard of?

I may have some of the ingredients wrong.

Definitely a 70s kind of dessert.

I would bet good money that recipe is either on the cool whip label or the pudding box

Known as layered delight, 4-layered delight, or chocolate delight. My mother has been cranking this out for decades. Good stuff.

Thank you everyone!!

Looks like it's also called Chocolate Sin or "better than sex" or Layer Dessert.

chocolate delight

I think that last one is closest to what she used to make.

Maybe it was a pecan shortbread crust instead of graham cracker now that I think about it.

dang there you go!

my mom was a 'simple cook' so the simpler the recipe and prep, the more likely this is going to replicate what she made.

thanks everyone!

Looks like you found it.

There's a restaurant in Little Rock (Trio's) that makes a banana version and it's one of my favorite desserts. Shortbread crust, cream cheese and pudding layer, bananas, covered with a yummy whipped cream layer topped with pecans and toasted coconut. Here's the recipe (the strawberry addition mentioned is something they do during strawberry season).

CAD - a staple for us growing up was something similar but with blueberry pie filling. It was so good.

Here is a recipe that is similar to what mom made. She did add some topping that had pecans in it though.

Donald Link has a version in one of his cookbooks, it's called Chocolate Yummy.

LINK

My daughter loves it and I make it for her several times a year. I cut the cream cheese with about half whipped cream to lighten it up.

Anybody from Lafayette will remember this as Imonelli's signature dessert back in the day.

This is what I grew up with in SW La. This was 40 + years ago. But that’s where Donald Link is from. Kids would just say we want Yum Yum. We have tried other crusts but the pecan one is the best.
