I’d like to see some examples, because some of these pedigreed places while they may have been around a long time, haven’t changed anything in the way they cook. Newer places are constantly experimenting with putting out a better product because the one thing they all get judged on is brisket. You have to find a way to separate yourself.
Nothing specifically pointed at the poster, I just don’t agree with the sentiment of it’s been here longer so it should still be ranked higher even if the food isn’t quite as good.

And many of the "diverse" inclusions are very much worthy. Can't speak to all of them, but I'd put Blood Bros way above some of the dinosaurs people are upset aren't on the list.

Much like rutiger said, It’s no agenda outside of newer more creative places taking the spots of older places that offer good bbq but are limited in their offerings to the traditional staples. Fairly or unfairly .
A place like Leroy and Lewis or Cattleack has a broader menu and does more interesting stuff than a place like Terry Blacks or Kreuz Market. Some of the decisions to leave places like T Blacks off may be arbitrary. Terry blacks is certainly better than a place like Stanley’s in Tyler but I guess they felt a need to encompass as many different parts of Texas as possible. These newer places are also a lot more competitive about their product.

Yep...I don't have any beef with the article. I've not eaten at a single top 10 listed. Just a guess as to why there might be a little push back.
Some old food establishments do survive of reputation and sentiment. There's usually room for improvement in a product or service. Maybe, this listing is absolutely spot on.

Blood Brothers is legit.
Look out for Cobos next year.
Shocked Harlem Road BBQ isn't on this.

Surprised Tejas Chocolate didn't make the list.

No Texas BBQ Corral, no care.

Didn't Harlem Road make honorable mention?

Hurtado in Arlington is the best BBQ I’ve ever had and I’ve been to probably half of the locations in the top 10.
Hellberg is near my parents house in Waco. Cali transplants, so when I tried it I was skeptical, but it’s damn good too. Glad to seen them be in the honorable mention.

feel the opposite. Ive never been wowed by Pinkertons
Pinkertons sides do nothing for me. I know that seems dumb but all these places have good brisket so it matters

Im glad you said that because Vera’s in Brownsville is not worth it.
Southmost is not a good neighborhood to wait for crappy barbacoa. It’s like a Mexican New Orleans East. Maybe it’s because they have permission to roast the pigs underground or the cartel pays off the magazines and reviewers - but it’s not that good. Plenty of better places. Plus, if you’re going to Brownsville get Mexican food & margaritas, not bbq.

Unfortunately I have to agree. I went about a year ago and it was a let down given the hype. It’s cool how traditional/old it is but the Barbacoa and other offerings were just bland. I’m glad I went to say I did but it definitely wasn’t a standout meal. Still you have to respect a place with 99 percent Mexican clientele that has a framed picture of John Wayne on the wall.

If we’re going sides, give me Gatlins

Stanley’s has been a highly rated BBQ joint for many years.
When Aaron Franklin wears a Stanley’s t-shirt on TV, that gives a pretty good stamp of legitimacy. I vote for them based on their eclectic music playlist plus the ribs.
