Tequila and mezcal was the second-fastest growing spirits category in 2021, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S.
Agave-based liquor is the second-best selling category, trailing only vodka, and if its growth rate continues to soar, it could be No. 1 in just a few years.
Consumers are increasingly sipping on high-end tequila and mezcal like scotch or cognac.

Gonna have to build a wall behind the bar.

Good, tequila and mezcal are vastly superior than vodka.

ranch water is the best easy to make cocktail out there

Vodka has been top selling since the 1970’s? That’s an impressive run.

Agreed. I haven't found a vodka I like. And don't tell me vodka doesn't have flavor and you can't taste it cause I can and I don't like it

I think there's a place for all of these. For Vodka, I like Belvedere.

It’s an immigration issue

Good…Rum will remain relatively inexpensive for the foreseeable future.

Bourbon/whisky is the answer, but I'm happy for it to not attain bud light status. I like a good aged tequila or rum. Vodka is for women who want to taste whatever they put in it. Food board down votes incoming.

Good. Let everyone else buy Tequila, Mezcal and Vodka.
I’ll stick with Scotch and Bourbon

Agree.
The only reason for vodka to exist is bloody Mary’s and screwdrivers
I’m getting interested in Tequila
Someone said it’s the only liquor that is not a depressant
Anybody know if true?

Agree. Vodka is kinda boring IMO.
I'm surprised Bourbon isn't top.

Ever been to a liquor store out of the south? The selection is shocking compared to what we are used to.
According to the Rant Bars where LSU fans go for away games run out of bourbon. Washington, Wisconsin.
South Bend the same (when UGA) went up there.

Clase Azul Reposado is usually what I try to get skeptical tequila drinkers to try. Neat or on ice.

Isn’t that diffused though?

Not so fast. The linked headline says it could overtake vodka.
The article says "if its growth rate continues to soar, it could be No. 1 in just a few years."
That's a lot of qualifiers. Get back to me if it ever happens, which I don't think it will. There are tons of hardcore alcoholics who buy gallons of cheap vodka each week. Hard to overcome that base.
