Yep. Here's a pretty good thread on it below. If OP is coming from Baton Rouge he can find good ones at the Donut Shop in Natchez, Walker's in St. Joseph LA (my favorite), or Solly's in Vicksburg.

I would disagree. Doe's are just ok, imo.

Aren't the major differences size, corn tortilla, and simmering to cook?

In my opinion, Doe's in Greenville are middle of the road, at best.

The only ones I've had were from Divine Donuts in Vicksburg. I loved them enough to stop every time I go through. Their kolaches are good too.

Don't go to Rhoda's in Lake Village Arkansas, at least for buying to take home. She's got good tamales and fried pies, but the last time I was in there I asked if I could buy several dozen to take home and freeze.

God love her, that sweet lady said "Oh no. You wouldn't know how to cook 'em."

I left with a full belly and an empty cooler.

Size, masa vs corn meal, steamed vs simmered in chili sauce.

The biggest difference is they don't taste anything alike, and Mexican tamales are usually dry with way too much corn to meat ratio

M&M is solid. Not the best I’ve ever had, but probably as good as you’ll get south of Vicksburg

Delta tamales are ground beef rolled in corn flour then parchment paper and steamed.

Mexican tamales are meat rolled in masa then corn husk and steamed

Central American tamales are meat and other fillings rolled in masa then wrapped in banana leaves and streamed.

Each has their place.

The best Delta style will be corn husk wrapped, then braised in a highly seasoned liquid. I much prefer them to the Mexican versions I’ve had.

Doe’s in Greenville switched to paper wrappers decades ago…not good.

Best I ever had was at a gas station in Clarksdale. Used to get them on the way to Burkes/Ward Lake/Miller Point. That was at least 15 years ago. That station is probably a lot more hood than it was back then.

Tamale place in Vicksburg. Some will tell you Solly’s, but they are drier and not as good as the tamale place in my opinion.
