Suire's Grocery & Restaurant- Kaplan, La

Recently watched a YT video of a British couple that's traveling all over the world for content on their channel. A couple of their videos caught my attention, visiting places and restaurants in Louisiana. They filmed a segment at Suire's in Kaplan and I was sold. My wife and I took the drive yesterday to have lunch and were not disappointed. We both got the seafood platter and took home enough for a second meal. It was only $22 per plate! Highly recommended for authentic Cajun food in a mom and pop type of establishment that I'm seeing disappear so often.
The Suire's segment begins at 10:21 in the video. Suire's
Suire's Grocery & Restaurant, located in Kaplan, Louisiana, offers a delightful blend of authentic Cajun flavors and warm hospitality. This charming eatery is known for its generous portions and a diverse menu that features timeless favorites. Customers rave about the fried catfish served with creamy potato salad and the signature Turtle Sauce Piquante, both of which exemplify true Cajun cuisine. Other standout dishes include the tender braised beef stew and an array of seafood options like shrimp po'boys.
The vibrant atmosphere reflects an old-fashioned grocery store feel where diners can enjoy hearty meals made from family recipes. Desserts are another highlight; guests frequently mention the heavenly pecan pie along with tempting fig tarts that make each visit unforgettable. Specialty items available for takeaway add convenience to those looking to savor Suire's culinary creations at home.
Must-Try Dishes:
- Fried Catfish: Perfectly seasoned fillet paired with homemade sides.
- Turtle Sauce Piquante: A tangy dish that showcases classic Cajun ingredients.
- Crawfish Étouffée: Rich flavor that captures the essence of Louisiana cooking.
- Seafood Platter: A variety of fresh seafood sure to satisfy any craving.
- Pecan Pie: Famous for its rich flavor and flaky crust, often considered dessert perfection.

I know right. Considering most places I go to get a seafood platter with that much food included is upwards of 30 to $35 or more.

Great food! A bit off of the beaten path, but well worth the drive.

Eaten there countless times after hunting in Cow Island. Suire’s is a Louisiana cultural treasure set in the 1950’s that everyone should experience once.

Ditto this goodness! I work a lot with Ochsner & I was introduced to Suire’s when I visited the little Ochsner Kaplan hospital. Now I make it part of my Kaplan routine when I go there.
Place is an absolute gem! First time I went, they had Turtle sauce picant w/ catfish filet on top for lunch special. Their baked goods are awesome too.

Grew up 10 mins from there. Plate lunches are outstanding. Turtle Sauce Picante and Meatball stew. All the sweets are excellent. Around the Holidays almost every shelf and space in there is covered in Pecan Pies. Lots of oil field management buy them as holiday gifts. It is a site to see and smell.

Really loved this place. Just wish they didn't serve their food in styrofoam clamshells with plastic cutlery. Feels so wrong for its old-fashioned vibe.
Won't stop me from going back, though.

I’ve been there a couple times and enjoyed it. Their sauce piquant is really good. Also gotta be sure to get some heavenly hash, fig cake, and homemade fruit tarts.
