We just weren't impressed with the atmosphere. Ordered our drinks and a kids meal of thin fried catfish for my daughter( which was great). Grabbed the check and went down the road to Frenier Landing, which we really enjoyed. Great views, menu looked pretty damn good. I got a dozen raw and my wife got a crab cake sandwich. Oysters were small so they gave me 16, and the sandwich was on time.

I've never been impressed by Frenier Landing. Used to love the Crab Trap when Louis Lipps was running it.

The service ALWAYS sucks there!

Gonna give Bec’s a try this weekend. It’s right before you get to Frenier Landing

Well excuse me, sir! Didn't realize you had traveled all the way to Middendorf's for fine dining.

How long ago was this?
I have some family who moved into the La Place area about a year ago and we've visited Frenier's and then Crab Trap about 6 to 9 months ago and neither did much for me.
At least Frenier's had decent food. The Crab Trap wasn't worth a damn and I think the boiled crabs they served us had been re-heated a few times. Can't think of any other reason the meat was total mush.

Now that the weather is so nice, I'm ready to drive back out and take the old people to Frenier's again to give it another shot.

I would still take Middendorfs over either.

Went to Middendorfs once a couple years ago because my kid loves thin fried catfish. His catfish was good, but I found that everything else we ordered was subpar. Wouldn't go out of my way to go there again. New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood has thin catfish that is just as good or better.

Thick cut at Middendorfs is superior to the thin cut

We are of the same opinion. The thin cut is almost all crust and I (we) prefer more meat inside of the crust.

Now if you love fried catfish crust - then thin cut would be your perfect meal.

We went several times to The Crab Trap over the past decade when Lipps was running it, and it was great. A couple of times he shut down due to storms. Then a couple years ago he re-opened across the street at a new place, but he didn't stay long and now another couple runs it and it's not nearly as good. At the old location he used to have great boiled crabs and super-clean crawfish, plus BBQ crabs and shrimp which were really good also.

I don’t think it’s overrated

I do think it’s gone downhill though

Been to Frenier's Landing a few time. Food is always well below average and service is terrible. Not many options in LaPlace, but this place is at the bottom of the list.

Crab Trap and "Peavine Snack Shack" are the same thing correct?

just FYI - if a crab dies before its cooked the meat gets soft and mushy within a minute or two, doesnt matter if its on ice or not. its the same thing with a crawfish

if its mushy it was already dead when cooked, and if you ever find that, because its not always easy to check every crab when boiling large pots of them, just let the waitress know, and they will replace it with another one

Bingo. That’s why his crabs were soft...DOA.
